A camera which still stands up today in RAW at lower ISOs and even the higher ISOs are better now with the latest RAW converters like Capture one V5 . It`s contrast detect AF shames DSLR Contrast detect and even beats some APS sensor current cams like the X100 and DP series for speed . card writes aren`t too bad with MS-Pro High speed but the lack of buffer slows the pace. the JPGs are smeary and unrefined like all Sony JPGs (My NEX5 is no better) . Still a worthy contender despite the lack ...

Have this camera for a few years now. You can get pretty good results, shooting in raw and develop your captures in Photoshop. The 24 mm is very good (love it) and gives less distortion when tilted, compared with widest opening of a Canon G10. I am/was very happy with this camera but now feel it is outdated: heavy, slow (raw), no image stabilisation, small evf, 10,2 megapixel, to small chip, however at first appearence a few years ago ok. Why does it take so long before camera makers are ...

I like the image quality very much. Carl Zeiss lens is superb. Great and easy menu. Rotating display. I really hope they make something new like that. I don't miss interchangeable lenses. I bought to new cameras Canon EOS and Panasonic DSCG1, and still prefer this. Problems: By today's standards it's quite slow. Rubber on the hand grip has warn off and is detached.

I have had my R1 for 2 months now, bought it in Ebay. From start it was very easy to use, easy to learn all functions and it took very good photos from day one. It is a big camera compared to V1 that I have used for 5 years but I love the size. It is more easy to hold steady than a smaller camera. I like the menusystem, easy to learn. Batterylife is very, very good, I have not run out of battery so far. And of course, quality of photos is amazing! Problems: There is no ImageStabilisation but ...

This is truly an amazing camera. Beautifully made Carl Zeiss (24-120mm) zoom lens matched with an APS size sensor. The images it produced are top rated. I'm so happy with this camera. The top LCD is also a nice touch. I love using it as a waist level camera, also making tough to shoot angle easy. The manual zoom ring is wonderful. For today's used price, it is an extreme bargain. Problems: I don't understand why Sony omitted the video feature on this camera, otherwise this is a perfect all ...

Great camera - almost perfect for hiking. Big sensor, clean images, takes RAW. Wonderful lens, perfect range for landscape work. Nice and fast, sharp as a razor. Great colors, adjustable. Solid build quality, rugged. No need to worry about dust, since lens is fixed. Nice LCD, versatile if a bit small by today's standards. Fairly good battery life for its time. I wish Sony would re-introduce a camera like this, but with interchangeable lenses and a few technology updates. This would be the ...

Fantastic lens in a bargain camera that's easy to use. A beginner can pick up this camera and take really good shots very quickly. Only thing I had to realise was the sensitivity to camera shake is higher than my previous F717. However the great picture quality at higher ISO makes up for this. Construction would also be a 5 if there wasn't a 'tiny' bit of movement in the lens barrel.

Sony R1 has been my second digital camera. My first one was a legend from Sony again F717. Quality of pictures in R1 is excellent. Even in the very dark environments with high ISO numbers, the pictures qualities are outstanding. Picture noise in high ISO is very little compared to many other cameras. Particularly fast focus to the images was my favorite. Swiveling LCD screen was very ergonomic to use during photo shot and review. Menu screens are easy to use and remember. It is the most I ...
