The camera is very compact, even for today's standards. The battery is powerful which, together with the quality of the camera's electronics, enables fast recording of the shots. The video in fine mode is very good for the average end-user. I think the biggest shortcoming is the low performance indoors, and the bad quality of the automatic lens cover. I own my L1 since last year. My wife had a Sony P73. I was assuming that L1 comprising with the Carl Zeis lens should have a much more better image quality in compare with the P73, but it was not true. In most cases the image quality is average. The images taken outdoor have better quality. Problems: 1-It seems that the flash light is not enough strong. 2-very short focal lenght

Outdoor pictures are very good, in my opinion they are about equal to the quality of the P73 pictures. Video is great, equal to any other Sony camera with MPEG VX fine. The thing that killed it for me about this camera is the lack of any manual focus. I use 1m and 3m focus alot with my P100 taking pictures inside of clubs or at parties when there is just not enough light or time to let the camera do the focusing.
