I guess I'll be straight to the point, I've had powershot sd1200 for a few years now as my first camera and it has been loyal and served me well, but I've decided it's finally time to pull the trigger and get a more serious piece of hardware. My budget is around 300, with a little wiggle room, and I have ingested more articles, reviews and threads in the last week or so than I can recall, and feel like I'm only getting father away from have a solid choice. I had initially decided on a Nikon...

Hi there, I use the hyperfocal distance to maximise depth of field on a number of different cameras, for both street and landscape shots, and normally get very good results. I've noticed with the DP1m however that infinity and distant objects are more blurred than i would expect. This is still the case when shooting on a steady tripod. There are two obvious possible conclusions: (1) I am using the wrong distance. From the Dofmaster online calculator I get a distance of 2.28m at an aperture of...

Hi, I went out with my sd-1 with my new-old 14mm lens to find out how the bug-eyed works. I was a bit confused after finding greenish coloration particularly on the edges of frame. Not in all photos but mostly in those taken on shore partly covered by ice. Weather was light cloudy. After playing with SPP I find out that it was easy to remove the coloration with Fringe Correction of SPP. Still wondering where it comes from? Is the lens somehow incompatible with sd1? Is there something wrong...

Can anyone provide an overview of what focus screen options are available to fit the SD15 ? Is the focus screen the same dimension as the SD1, are they interchangeable ? I am interested in split screen focussing and curious as to whether there are any down sides compared to the SD15's existing set up ?  First hand experience etc. Thanks in advance. Cheers.

I've been busy moving to a new area and then with family medical issues for the past year or so and haven't been here much. Things appear to be settling down somewhat so I'm hoping to visit more. I have moved from Yukon to Vancouver Island following retirement and am enjoying the warmer weather and not having to be shoveling snow constantly. I have a question. What is the current consensus on the SD1 M and DP M series when it comes to ISO up to 1600? I remember some discussion from all those...

I've been looking to get a little more in depth from an equipment standpoint when it comes to macro photography.  I was wondering if anyone had experience with a digital rail and Sigma cameras, or a tethered auto focus bracketing software with Sigma cameras. I'll be picking up Helicon Focus soon (or at least trying it out) to use for focus stacking shots, and now I'm thinking about the best way to capture images.   Helicon has a software called "Remote" by which you tether your camera to a...

As I already told, I'm back to Sigma and its unsurpassed colour rendition and Foveon sensor, my last camera had been an SD15, after a SD14, after... In the past, there was always a highly discussed recommended "basic setup" for a SD camera, not at last in order to overcome the one or the other weakness, or some "trick" to do so. I remember for my SD15 that is was a good idea to set the exposure compensation always to -0.7 in order to avoid highlight clipping, to set the colour mode to...

I have a Sigma SD14, but I'm going to be getting an SD1. They both use the same batteries, so I'm going to get a couple of new batteries now. I have a couple of old Chinese garbage brand batteries, and they don't work very well. They don't last long, and the SD14 does weird stuff when they start to get low on power. I don't think I want to get any of those $12 specials from China, even though they claim to be 1,750 mAh batteries, vs. the 1,500 mAh of my Sigma battery. A friend of mine told me...

I ask as it does not seem to be in Dave Coffin's latest list and I can't find an email address with which I can ask him. I am intending to buy an SD3M but only if I can continue to use Qimage to convert my RAWs. I've asked on the Qimage forum but not got an answer (yet). The SD1 and the SD2 are supported. I thought all three had the same sensor and software. Tony

Please accept my apologies in advance if I have failed to find the answer in existing posts already or I am just stating the blatantly obvious… I dare to ask since I suspect I may be the only Foveon user ever, who have cared dialing the resolution down to “Medium” ;-) Having acquired the SD1 last week I have been running some simple non-scientific tests out of the window of the various settings of the camera enjoying the sunny day of Brussels going Springy early. One of the things I have...
