I had this lens on my D5000. It's good value for its price, as it's cheaper than the toyish Nikon 55-200mm, has a metal mount and similar picture quality. The OS works very well, but it's also needed as the lens has poor resolution wide open. It gets better by f7.1-f8, and again worse at f11 and below. A good entry level lens as long as you're not expecting the world from it.

The Sigma 50-200mm f:4-5.6 DC OS HSM only plus is its size and weight, and a very effective image stabilization system, but as for image quality it lacks pretty much at anything below f:8. And don't take it too much above f:11, or it will suffer from diffraction. Is a basic short to mid tele lens, that will render decent images when used properly, but don't expect too much from it.
