I got mine used. Focus is not HSM but it's still relatively quick and accurate. Good edge sharpness. I did find it a little too contrasty in high contrast light. The only complaint I have with the lens is the switching between manual and auto focus. To go from auto focus to manual you have switch off the auto focus on the side of the lens and slide the focus ring rearward to re-engage the manual focus clutch. I got mine for less than half price. It feels very nice to handle, it is sturdy and heavy. Both are good qualities to me. IQ Pictures look great the colors are beautiful and it has good contrast. Mine BF a bit but my pentax K-5 took care of that. Resolution... dot dot dot, yeah, well I love this lens but I do think my copy (and I cringe when I use that word - My Lens Is Soft ) normal price is 3 times what I paid and I feel the resolution should be better. I've been using this lens for couple of years now. This is the older one without HSM motor. Focus speed is good, not quick snap like Canon, but good enough. The only problem I have is that the lens front- and back focus some times, but I've learned to work around it by taking more shots and apply refocusing with every shot. That helps a lot. It's a very sharp lens. I'm happy with it. Since I got the price has increased more than double what I've paid, but I assume the lens has been improved ...
