Hi all, Have been watching this site for a long while now and I finally decided to make an account as I cannot decide on which to lens (so many different lenses/reviews :s) My setup: Basically in a few months I will be going travelling for 1.5 years in SE Asia, Australia (almost a year spent here!), New Zealand and possibly some French Polynesia island. I own a D3300 with the 18-55 vrii lens kit, a 35mm 1.8G and a Joby Focus gorilla pod as I love to take long exposure. I will take my 35mm...
I took a few shots of the last super-moon we had but, due to the lack of an available tripod (long story) the results were less than impressive. What it did show was that my current Sigma 18-250mm lens doesn't really have the reach to get a good detailed shot of the moon. With the next super-moon coming up on the 9th (which I will have my tripod back for), I have a small budget of around £100 (which I might be able to stretch a little) to see if I can improve the situation. So I was...
Hi all, First time posting here and I have been torn for weeks so I decided to try posting here. I have read dozens of reviews, articles and other forum posts and I am at a quandary. My current gear-Canon XSi which I have had and loved for 4+ years but am starting to feel its limitations in terms of ISO, processing power for continuous shooting RAW and FPSTokina 11-16 f2.8, Canon 18-55 kit lens, Canon 55-250 kit lensI primarily use my camera in the outdoors on hiking and mountain climbing...
Hi All, I've done hours of research into these two lenses and I can't decide between the two. I have an A57. I'll be dumping my kit 18-55 for one of them. Looking for a versatile lens to compliment my primes. I can pick these up for the same price, and I just can't decide between the two. Does anyone have any experience with both or recommendation?
I discovered this yesterday using a Sigma 18-250mm F3.5-6.3 DC OS MACRO HSM lens, but wonder if the root cause is inherent in 3rd party lenses. I went to a butterfly conservatory with a friend yesterday; I used my Canon T3i with my Sigma 18-250mm F3.5-6.3 DC OS MACRO HSM, and she used her Canon T3 with the Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM. It was decently lit, and we used long focal lengths to get close-up shots of the butterflies. We're relatively new to the DSLR world, and so took all our...
I've been looking for a telephoto lens for my Sony A-57 camera that can travel with me and not be too heavy. I have tried Sony, Tamron and even Tonika lenses and there were no problems, so I didn't have qualms about buying a Sigma 18-250mm F3.5-6.3 DC Macro HSM lens recently. The lens I bought fit onto the camera okay (though a bit tight), and the lens cap flew off & was hard to get back on and secured, but the main problem was that I couldn't even take a picture with it. When I pressed the...
Hello, After reading reviews on this site, I recently purchased a D5200 with a Sigma 18-250 lens for my wife. Neither of us is remotely knowledgeable about photography, but she likes having a camera that takes photos quickly, and didn't want to hassle with multiple lenses, so this seemed like a reasonable choice. We love the camera and to our eyes the pictures it takes are great, but frequently, after taking several shots sequentially (not in burst mode, just 8-10 within a minute or so), it...
I will be traveling to Hawaii next month, to the islands of Kauai and Maui, and the Big Island, and was looking for suggestions on how to shoot in a couple of situations. Camera is SLT A57 (hence posting to this forum). I will be taking a helicopter ride around Kauai and am looking for suggestions on how to best capture the landscape, which I hear is stunning. I have a 70-200 f2.8 from Sigma but it's too heavy to be lugging around, especially on a helicopter ride. The other three options are...
Hi, I'm looking at getting a walkabout lens for my Nikon D5100 for when I am vacation. So far I have narrowed it down to these two lenses. They are both pretty reasonable and have some decent reviews. I know the downside of getting a lens like this, but it is what I need to save carrying around several lenses when on vacation. And I don't really want to splash out on the Nikkor equivalents. So I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with either one of the lenses or both? As I'm...
