After using the magnificent K7, I'd never thought any other camera might have any appeal to me. But K5 is one those rare things that proves there's no end for progression. For normal daylight photography, I rarely see a big difference between K7 and K5, but in low light, wow. Problems: Nothing special but the videography could be better, though I don't think I'm going to use a dslr for videography.

I have had this camera for 11 months now, and over 9000 shots later, I thought I would write a review. Lets just start by saying that this is the finest Pentax DSLR that has ever been made. Why? Well as an owner of the *istDS, K10D and K20D I think I might be a good guide on this. In the past, Pentax upgrades have been incremental, 6MP - 10MP, 10MP - 14MP and now 14MP to 16MP. But that is only part of the story. The *istDS to K10D was a leap, both in ability and functions, the K10D to K20D ...

I have recently sold my much loved Canon 600d to upgrade to a Pentax K5, i was a bit reluctant to sell the canon as i wasn't to sure if it was going to be much of an upgrade but let me tell you this pentax blows the 600d out of the water in every aspect. Here is a link to my flickr, you can compare real life photos taken by a real life amateur the newer shots are the k5 older shots are the 600d and the very old shots are from my 1st camera a 400D. It sates which camera they were taken with ...

The most bang for my buck!! When you consider that it was Asahi-Pentax that first developed the SLR-TTL format, it surprizes, that the camera is so frequently relagated to that back of the line designation. A few months back, I bought a K-01 and was not ecstatic about it. though the features were FINE, the mirror-less/ smaller ? camera I was shooting for just wasn't THERE. after a few new lenses for same, I thought what ta hell, K5 looks fantastic.....And it is. When the K5 came out in ...

Excellent sensor and generally good ergonomics with a few niggles - I am a left eye shooter who uses focal point selection often, and it is easy to accidently engage live view. Live view much improved over K20D, fps and buffer size (RAW) allow proper action photography, good high ISO if you do not underexpose. Build quality excellent, battery life excellent, fits my hands well even without a grip, which surprised me as the K20 felt better with the grip! Useful external buttons that can be ...

Because I had the D90 late, I also didn't feel too pressured to rush over and buy the K5 as soon as it came out. Not that I didn't dream about it. The K7 that I tried before felt so great that I knew I couldn't resist a similar camera with a better sensor. While I love the smaller size and even better build, I feel that some controls were better on the K20 and K10. Focus point selection for example. I also felt that the ISO button could have been used for something else since adding it ...
