Good camera, got it on a discontinued sale. Very impressed with the compact size, solid construction and practical features. Mode dial is quick and easy to access many commonly used presets, as well as 4 programmable modes, which save your favourite settings, i.e., flash off, high quality, shutter priority. Sound recording (6 hours on 1 Gb card) Movie recording (30 minutes on 1 Gb card) Stitch mode works in both horizontal and vertical position, enabling very wide angle shots. Problems: LCD ...

Great camera, many features. Issue is that you cannot customize most of the features and you dont have full control of the settings, you have more of a translated control. http://thepcnerd.deviantart.com/gallery/ All photographs on that gallery are from this camera. Problems: None

Relative good price and good features. It is a tiny and very beautiful camera. It fits easily in a pocket. Movies are good and sound recording excelent (30 fps with sound limited to card size). Problems: Focus during the night is poor and noise is annoying. Images when 100% view size shows noise. Focus system slow and not practical. It takes some time to recharge flash.

I wanted a small, lightweight camera mainly for use travelling. The S40 takes adaquate photos, though they are often somewhat dark (I adjust the gamma using software and they are much improved). I like the camera, but I feel it is only fair to list my misgivivings. Here are some (minor) annoyances I have has with the camera: 1) There is only one video mode. You cannot adjust the resolution/frame rate. It is set quite high so your videos end up being HUGE. Which takes up space and wastes ...

I've had problems with a Canon A80 regarding to built quality (burnt pixel, poor lens door, warranty work did nothing) and, after hearing about E18 errors, I decided an exchange to something not Canon. Since I'm getting a DSLR soon, I want something tiny and light, with great construction. The Pentax did not disappoint. Comparing the 2 models, I found... 1. The Canon costs almost twice as much 2. The Canon offers higher image quality (less noise, sharper) when viewed on screen. But for ...

I was swinging between Pentax S40 and Casio Z-40 three months ago and bought Casio Z-40 for its size, large screen and 21 modes ignoring my friend's advice (he has been a photo shopkeeper for more than 20 years). Z-40's image quality disappointed me immediately. So I decide to buy a S40 as counterpart. I took advantage of local sale and bought S40 last week. I found the image quality of S40 to be much better than Z-40's. So I list the pros and cons of S40: Pros: better image quality than ...

I purchased the Optio S40 after a lot of looking around, based on its size, the fact that it uses AA batteries, reports on previous models from Pentax, and new features. I've used it for 4 months now, with a 256 MB SD card. I haven't been disappointed. It's truly amazing how well a $299 camera that's this small can work. The movie mode is quite handy, and you can get ~10 min on the 256 MB memory. I did not expect image quality as high as can be obtained with larger cameras, but it's ...

I decided on picking up the pink version since the other colors were fairly bland (Silver & Blue were my options). It takes quite nice photos and I'm definatly pleased with the video mode (which has come in handy as I use my Nikon D70 as my main camera). Over-all, it's quite well constructed, zooms fairly fast and takes nice quality photos. Problems: The downside I noticed is that it takes AA batteries rather than a LiION battery. One one hand, this is great since I'm traveling the globe, ...
