I have used Olympus C2000, D40Zoom, Canon Powershoot S50. Optio 555 is a nice portable camera. I like: macro & super macro. Who needs good macro and portable 5Mp camera there is no choice. Optio 555 is best for macro. Keys & menus are very well organized. Very simple to use. Excellent battery life! Of course optical x5 zoom. Real time histogram. Images are very realistic and there is no digital colour saturation. Included ACDsee software is very user friendly. I don't like: manual focus ...

Very pleased with this camera over the past two weeks. It can also take three dimensional pictures quite easily and a special viewer is also supplied. How come no one ever mentions this little bonus? The batteries supplied seem superior to most of this camera's competitors. I also like the dual viewfinders. That is the video screen, and the optical viewfinder which is linked to the zoom. The latter is really useful in the bright outdoors. I started using Pentax film cameras in 1965. Pr ...

I love this camera. Color accuracy is excellent. The colors are very realistic. Default sharpness is a little soft for my taste, but it can be sharpened in Photoshop or you can boost the sharpness on the camera. At first I was disappointed in the softness, but I think it is better this way so that images wont' be oversharpened by the camera as I think it was with my previous digital camera. My previous camera's pictures looked crisper on first glance, but when I looked closer at them I always ...

I´ve owned diverse Olympus Digicams before but after spending nights over nights in the net & photo shops I decided to take the Optio 555. I must say: This is the best thing I´ve ever had in my hands (when it comes to digital cameras). I also tried the DSC-V1 but I didn´t really fall in love with it. Usage is so simple, although the camera shows such a big number of features that it´ll take meeks/months to discover them all. It´s not too heavy, construction gives a "stable feeling" - it´s ...

The camera was great fun with an easy to follow instruction manual. The longer battery life is helpful. Picture quality is superb. Video quality and sound is so-so. Software is functional, but nothing more. Problems: Lenscap is brittle and can very easily break. Mine did! I mailed it to Pentax in Boulder for repairs. They have now had it for3 weeks and the camera has not been entered into their 'system. I.e. it is sitting in a mailroom somewhere. There is nothing you can do as soon as they ...

I bought the Pentax Optio 555 on 2 November 2003 in Hong Kong. My number one reason for choosing the 555 was: The longer battery life. My second reason was the 5x zoom, followed by stronger flash and additional features to learn now to use. Saying that, there will be times I wish I had the smaller, lighter, faster Minolta G500... So it was a serious compromise that was not an easy choice - they are BOTH excellent options for a small light 'everyday' camera! Very basic - but my very first ...
