I've looked at many consumer and pro-sumer class DSLR's. Many are capable of taking excellent photographs. Because I've been doing photography for 30 years, I not only value the technical capabilities of a camera, but build quality, feel, ergonomics, and "soul" of a camera. Its in these areas that the DMC-L1 excells. Build quality looks and feels far better than similarly priced "metal body" competition. The less expensive plastic bodied stuff does not even compare. The "kit" lens on this ...

DMC-L1 performance Having used this camera for over a month and taken more than 200+ pictures, I found the performance is quite good medium and marco ranges except I could not get a sharp picture at wide angle (14 - 18mm). May be the new len can improve this. Problems: Wide angle sharpness to be improved

This is an exceptional camera and a real credit to Panasonic. I have the former model a Leica Digilux 1 which is superbly engineered and this is a huge step forward. I have read many of the previous reviews and bought the camera in spite of them, I am so very pleased I did. I cannot believe that previous reviewers could be so negative without actually having the camera to properly test. Well done Panasonic. Problems: None - the new 1.1 firmware has resolved all the early bugs.

This camera is for someone who considers the design and ergonomics of a camera as part of the package. These days you can "plant" a 10MP Sensor in almost anything. This is a real instrument, an extension of your eyes and hands. Awesome construction, outstanding quality. But not a mass consumer oriented computer with a lens. Bravo Panasonic! And, Panasonic Customer Service is professional and responsive! Problems: RAW Software not the best.

Possibly the best offering Panasonic has ever made. This thing blows away many digital cameras. I 've had mine since the day before Christmas and I throw it in the car or take it down the beach, landscapes, portraits, candids, it's awesome..I own a canon 1ds, all the lenses, a Fuji S2 Pro and have parted with all other pro nikons from Kodak, etc. and this camera with the Leica formula lens is causing me to abandon my pro equipment because it is a pro's dream ..finally a digital camera that ...

In my first couple of days with this camera, I must say I'm very impressed. I may be showing my age, but the feel of the camera is even better than I expected. The camera focus speed could be a little faster, but it is more than adequate having been used to my Nikon D70. The 14-50mm lens that comes with the "kit" is truly a great lens for its range, and the image stabilization works great. I feel as comfortable with it as with my Nikon 70-200VR f2.8, which has given me many happy moments! ...

I really love this beauty. Great construction and image quality. But what I love most is the ease of use (almost like my old anolog stuff). Also the possibility to flash via the ceiling is nice. The dust reduction system is also one of the items that made me decide for the Lumix, especially with the four third lens mount. Speaking of lenses: the Leica 14-50 that comes with the Lumix is fantastic.

Unbelievable value -- $1299 at Costco! I'd give it six on value if I could. The Leica lens is super fast for a zoom and produces incredibly sharp images. The camera itself has a ton of features I've only begun to wade through. Light and very sturdy build. Easy to use feature layout, especially if you trained on a manual SLR. That type of usability is why I picked the Lumix over the others. It's also a beauty to behold. Problems: Firmware upgrade is essential, but Panasonic support site ...

Well built, full featured, manual controls (external f-stop/speed conrols) a great relief to digging through menus. Some very nice composing features thru the LCD (such as 10X display for manual focus). However, the camera is far too large for the functions it performs and it really seems to be more of a 'boutique' camera for middle aged upscale men who want to show off their Porsches rather than a serious photographer's tool. Image quality issues cripple the Leica lens. The Four Thirds ...
