Surprised by both the build and image quality of this lens. My only complain is the lack of seals, but for the price this is expected. I wrote a comparison with the zuiko 50-200 + 1.4TC here: http://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/53778103

This lens produces pleasing sharp images up to around 250mm and I've used it to good effect for wildlife photography among other things. But it's not perfect. The image is soft when the lens is fully extended, to the point where I often back down to 250mm or so, crop, and get sharper-looking results than I would have at 300mm. The manual focus ring on my unit is quite stiff, which is a big problem given the focus-by-wire user interface on m43 cameras: it can be quite difficult to make ...

This is my wifes' lens and she uses it on her Panasonic G3. I have been very pleased and surprised with this one, especially since the IS firmware upgrade. The reach is amazing, especially for the cost. As others have said, you must pay close attention to fudamentals to get sharp images. The lens is most capable even at 600mm equivalent. But it requires kepping shutter speeds up and using correct hand-holding. It's better than the Canon 70-300 IS (non-L) and the Tamron 70-300 VC in image ...

Picture quality, overall performance and price good but zoom performance bad. Zoom ring is so stiff and so much pressure must be exerted to rotate the zoom ring that there is no way to zoom in or out while filming. Problems: Slow zooming is jerky and destabilizes image.

The thing that pleases me the most about this lens is its end to end sharpness and lack of CA. It's excellent in that respect and I'm sure that it will achieve a good "bang for your buck" reputation. I took most of the shots in these sets with it; it's not the fastest lens, but you can hopefully see that it's quite an adequate performer when it gets darker. http://www.flickr.com/photos/efsb/sets/72157627314462778/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/efsb/sets/72157627314327516/ http://www.flickr.com ...

I was pleasantly surprised at how small the lens was considering it's focal range, when I first opened it up. Having worked previously with a 70-300G Sony lens this is like a baby brother. As good as the Sony lens is and has been written up for, this lens trumps it in spades. It is just as quiet and fast to focus, yet provides an image that is better in shear sharpness and contrast, lacking CA and flare issues as well. It is a superb build, solid as a rock, much like I recall the Sony, but ...
