I've never used a digital reflex, only film ones. I own a compact (Panasonic TZ8) and recently I bought an Olympus PEN E-PL1, used. I am not fully satisfied because the Oly has very soft lenses wide open (see this thread and beware! it's huge). I found a Canon 1000D and a Nikon D3000 for 180 €, used, with kit 18-55. These are on the low end of the prices for Canon and Nikon "old" entry level digital equipment. For 170 € I could buy a Sigma 19 mm...
Olympus PEN E-PL1 with M.Zuiko 14-42 zoom kit lens versus Panasonic Lumix TZ8 (DMC ZS-5). I bought the PEN used because I could not afford it new, the part on the left is one of the first photos. I'm extremely disappointed because I bought it expecting sharper images than the Panasonic. Contrast and sharpness are set to 0 in every camera. How is it possible for the PEN kit lens to have less resolution than the Panasonic lens? The Pana lens is made by Leica, I thought it was not true but...

I know this a basic question but I have followed this forum with interest and keeping jumoing off the fence and back on.  I currently use a Dslr, LX3 and TZ8.  I am finding the SLR heavy as I get on and camera shake creeps in (no IS).  I have decided to get a bridge camera.  I had settled on the FZ150 and was about to buy it until the 200 popped up.  The 150 is selling at about £330 to 340 and the 200 with the current Panasonic discount at a final price of £380 to 390. So only £50...
