Photos are not very sharp because of the jpg-compression is too high. Pictures come as 180 dpi instead of 300 dpi. They chould look better if the compression is not so high. Maybe an upgrade could solve the problem. New firmware ???

This is the latest of my 3 'superzoom' GPS compact cameras and the only one that can truly be called 'pocketable'. The Sony HX9v and Canon SX260 HS I've owned previously have just been that bit too bulky for a pocket and I always had been reduced to a belt case on when out with them. This is how I lost it, too big to sit down with, I left it on a table and remembered within 100yds, but it had gone and no-one saw anything... thanks Ripon! This however is perfect size to drop in the pocket for ...

Bought the TZ40 becouse my TZ7 was broken, This is a really fast camera, focus, writing-speed are superfine. The colours and exposures are very good in all settings. The touchscreen is greath, i haven't used it's GPS or wifi becouse this doesn't intr. me. The pictures look really greath on iso 100, above this the noise engine is working to hard to remove the 18 megapixels noise(overkill) the pictures become soft at higher iso settings. To bad, the TZ7 was usable till iso 400! The 20 zoom lens ...

I'm so disappointed : poor quality pictures. Full of useless gadgets (slow GPS, wifi unable to transfer pictures). Nice colors but some random blur on high contrast pictures. I was a very satisfied Panasonic owner with a DMC-FX3 and a DMC-LS6.

My primary camera is the Canon DX but it's pretty hard to haul that thing around every day. I bought the Lumix because I had heard it had a great zoom (tripod needed) but it also took great shots that could be downloaded to a smartphone and it had a respectable 5 to 10 FPS in burst mode. Not to mention a GPS tag which is very cool. So, I got comfortable with the features and this thing takes some great shots and you can put it in your shirt pocket. It's addictive and it just about warrants ...

I'm user of  an old FZ50, TZ5 and from this summer TZ40 also I have a Nikon D90 with several lenses. I upgrade my TZ5 to a TZ40 and start my hollidays trip this summer. I wear my D90 set and the new TZ40. After the trip this are my comments about the camera. I promise to wear most of the time my DSLR. Quality of a DSLR is always over a pocket camera. Large zoom and small body together are incompatible, if you use large zoom with the TZ40 use a tripod most of the time and use the faster ...

When you consider how many niches this camera tries to fill, it does a reasonably good job in nearly all of them. I wouldn't say its spectacular in any category, but together it's an impressive package.  It's a camera I'm comfortable taking anywhere, and I feel I can rely on it for nearly any situation. My biggest disappointment is the way they replaced the slide power switch (on the older models of this line) with a push-button power switch on this new model. I assume it was to accommodate ...
