In general, the LC40 is a join development between Panasonic and Leica, with Panasonic providing the electronics and Leica, the len. It uses the same Matsushita 3.9 megapixel CCD imager and LEICA DC VARIO-SUMMICRON zoom len as Panasonic’s top-of-the-line DMC-LC5 model and Leica’s Digilux 1. Technically speaking, the LC40 should shares the same image attributes as the LC5 and Digilux 1. I had done a lot of researches with cameras using the same CCD and len before making the final decision. ...

This camera has served me exceptionally well, living in Northern Botswana, this camera has to be strong and reliable, give me good quality pictures, and withstand being thrown around in the off road conditions. It has been my companion from desert, through bush and the occational costal trips. The battery life is a huge bonus as there is no such thing as power on these trips to recharge. I really have got stunning pictures out of it. Wouldn't swap it for anything. Problems: Would love to have ...

I have owned this camera 8 monthes. Problems: I made the mistake of buying this as my first Digital camera. At first I was pleased with the results.Until I compared my photos with the Sony's and Canons.Image quality is only o'k outdoors and that is marginal at best.Every image has intolerable amounts of noise, even at lowest ISO 100;200 and 400 images are horrible. The image write time is aweful it takes 6 seconds per image and almost 30 seconds in tiff mode.Images with using flash look ...

I have had this camera for 5 months and have found that in most cases it is excellent. Day time photos are very good and night time photos have exceeded my expectations. The build quality is excellent I like the fact that it can fit in a pocket (just). I have compared photos with a Nikon 5700 and the quality is comparable with minimal noticeable difference. Problems: Flash photos always seem too bright, look washed out and look unnatural. I would like more than 8 seconds as the maximum ...

Great battery life and easily lasts while filling up a 256MB SD card. The 16MB card it comes with is just too small as I take all photos at the highest quality JPEG photos (about 1.5MB each, 10MB if using TIFF). I've knocked it around a bit in the montains. It's a bit scratched but it still works great. Fantastic macro shots and life like colours. I picked it up for US$400 which is cheaper than I could have bought it here in NZ. Problems: Great photo quality photos but its hard to get a ...

can take excellent pics, can take terrible pics. it needs plenty of light to focus correctly. great shot can be had, but not without proper light. lcd screen is aweful in bright light though (almost unusable). The LC5 offers manual focus and a hood for the lcd screen. For some shots these two features are needed...so maybe spring for the LC5 instead. I would if i had the dough and could get rid of my LC-40. Other than shaky pic quality, you get amazing features, easy to use, and solid ...

I review digital cameras in a magazine, so quite many of them pass through my hands each month. I must admit that the Panasonic LC40 and LC5 cameras were among those that almost couldn't find anything wrong with, so I decided to get a LC40 for personal use. It has great Leica optics, exceptionally sensitive, maybe the best camera in it's class for taking shots in low light (one of the very few cameras that can be used without a flash from your hand almost all the time). It has great ...

I've been using this camara for a few months now and I am very pleased with it overall. The image quality is excellent. I shopped around for a 4 mp camara for a while and chose this one mainly because of the lens and the price. ($499 at sears) I think its a good value for the money. I also like the fact that the camara has so many features like the macro mode and shutter priority mode. Also, its excellent on battery power and the jpeg movies are very good quality compared to some other ...
