I've just bought a (new) FZ5 very cheaply and am impressed. I wanted a longer focal length than my main camera (the exceptional Sony R1) provides and the FZ5 is doing the job well for less than a quarter of the cost of a (very heavy) teleconverter for the R1. It will never displace the R1 for IQ but it does its job very well. Very light and capable - brilliant value as a 'discontinued' model. Problems: The camera is so small and light it is difficult to hold. I use a wrist strap all the time.

This has been a great camera. My replacement for mountaineering/backpacking after my C2100 UZ1 proved too heavy and bulky. FZ5 is sturdy, takes a huge range of great photos. The battery lasts a long time and I could keep a 36-400mm camera in a jacket pocket or a small beltpack w/ some extra filters. Great for travel. My neighbor wants it so I'm upgrading to the FX18 for wide angle and manual focus mostly. But my FZ5 will be going to Czech Republic this summer. Problems: Occasional blurry ...

This is a great little camera. I have owned it since Summer 2005. Over 7000 images later it is still going strong! See the results here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/11410150@N07/sets/72157602294666233/

Impressive specifications including excellent optics. Superzoom is fun and handy. OIS works..though not as effective as AS on my SLR. Decent range of features and full control, but shutter speed limitations at fast apertures Nice accurate attractive image colours Battery life good at near 300 shots Option for TIFF files (though you wont likely use it much) Flash exposures pretty decent. Good value for money for what you get AF decent in good light. Not bad for macro work. Choice of metering ...

I wasn´t sure if I´d made a mistake when I bought this camera, but after almost a year I am extremely happy the results. I found the camera intuitive and easy to use. It´s smaller than I imagined too, which I have grown to like. I love the Night Scenery mode. I took it to some local caves and got some great shots - it required a tripod or in my case laying the camera on a flat surface and then using the self timer (8 sec exposure), but the results were wonderful. Having used a Canon EOS 5 ...

closeout, a year later and what a nice camera for the money, allot like its brother fz20 without manual focus and a few other things. I am trying to sum up whats good and bad compared to other cameras. The lens is really good and its a hard nut to crack in that the colors don't exactly match the best from other makers but with a little tweaking, it gets there sometimes. The ability for this extremely light weight camera to get dead on focus shots is very good and amazing dead on which is ...

Very good camera for its size, class and price. It is nice to be able to eliminate the use of tripod and capture 12X handheld sharp moon shots! Very good color accuracy and balanced cast. Fast focus and very good focus in low light. A not to miss legend for its category and time. Problems: Lack of manual contrast, sharpness and saturation adjustments. Abcense of manual selectable focus point in the frame. ISO400 is noisy (lower ISOs are noise acceptable) with some slight color shift (a ...

I have been using this camera for a couple of months now, and I can't believe how nice the pictures come out. Even low light pictures have good depth and tone. I take a lot of nature photos in the early morning and late evening and am impressed with the results. As long as you don’t require manual focus, I would recommend this camera to any amateur photographer. The small size of the camera comes in handy for packing and carrying, too. On my last vacation I didn’t even take my film ...
