I've owned the FZ-40 for 6 days. As an active traveler, I have used several different cameras. You really can't go wrong with any of the mega-zoom point and shoots - they all have their pros and cons. However, the Panasonic FZ-40 is probably as good as P&S's will get with the current technology. Some day someone will figure out how to get a bigger and better sensor to work with a mega-zoom lens, but until then, the FZ-40 is my choice. This camera is easy to use, quick focusing, and has all ...

The optics are excellent. Very sharp at all lengths and all apertures. Stabilization is incredible (compensates 2-3 stops). Decent apertures (2.8 to 5.2). Battery life is very good. Handling also is above average. It has the usual limitations of a compact camera though; poor high ISO performance and slow autofocus. Also, the software could be much better, for example, allowing you to use the "scene modes" combined with the PASM modes, e.g.: Use the 3200 and 6400 ISOs in Manual mode, instead ...

Complete, light, easy to handle, can actually substitute an entire camera + lenses set. I found the lens particularly effective, even in low lights with good gain due to the stabiliser action. If compared with other bridge cameras I used so far, I appreciate the improvement in the sharpness of the image in the viewfinder. Unfortunately it is not possible to use an external flash. Problems: The front lens is exposed, I tried to protect it with a 52 mm skylight filter but still I can't say if ...

The successor of the Lumix FZ 35 has a greater Zoom in wide(25mm) and tele(700mm IR) range and a better performance. The image quality is as good as the Lumix FZ38 that means also better as the image quality from the FZ47(resolution,noise,color).The telezoom has the best image quality compared to the competitors like Sony hx100,Fuji hs 20,nikon p500,lumix Fz47 which have all very great texture faults and dead leaves faults. pro: good resolution and colour, noise(to ISO 200) and chromatic ...

I'd had an FZ38 for some time and my wife gave me a FZ45 for our visit to a South African game park. I slightly doubt if the upgrade was worthwhile. The FZ45 is heavier, the increased pixels are just puff and the extra focal length is a bit academic without a tripod. There was no learning curve involved in my "upgrade", although I can't imagine why the video button has been moved to a less accessible place. I took several hundred photos of big game in Program AE mode at 3x burst and most came ...

Pros: Fully configurable composition (shutter/ISO/aperture/manual focus), stereo sound recording. Very quiet zoom during video recording, causing no interference with the audio recording. Good burst mode up to 10 fps. The specifications say video recording in Motion JPEG format won't work unless you use a Class 6 or higher SD card. However I tried it with slower cards (Transcend Class 4 and Sandisk Class 2) and worked well. Overall, I would highly recommend this camera if you don't want to ...

Truly a great camera, light, portable and with excellent image quality. Like others in the class is not ideal for photos in dim light. Unlike the press reviews I found it much better than the FZ18. Problems: Proprietary battery (and other accessory) very expensive. Sub optimal pics in low light.
