I owned Lumix FX7 and Fuji F100fd. FX500 is my third camera. To put it shortly: my opinion is that compared to FX7 it is a huge step forward, compared to F100fd it is a much better overall quality at the price of 2Mp difference in sensors. MEGA O.I.S. stabilization lets me take off-hand pictures with shutter set at 1/2, it is much better than FX7 and F100fd ones. 25mm wide optical distortion is not noticeable at all - that was a real surprise after 28mm F100fd fish-glass effect. After owning a string of Canon digital Elfs, the FX500 made me put my Canon SD850is on the shelf. The FX500 is easily the best consumer digital ultra compact on the market right now. The features are just amazing. Great build, the metal casing feels really solid. Pictures are what you should expect from a camera that size, not more, not less. Best part of this camera is the ergonomics: the touch screen works very well, the menus are nicely designed and the features are all rather easy to find. PASM modes are also welcome and have helped me get good pictures where fiddling with the scene modes was not enough. Problems: 1) Zooming to Tele (125 mm) reduces image quality more than I expected.
