Using E-300 and later E-500, E-500 is a bug-fixed E-300, with some upgrades in features, most notably larger LCD and new matrix metering (49-segment). Not so obvious are better WB (not perfect but better) and JPEG engine. With E-300, I needed to shoot RAW, but E-500 I don't, except some very important events. The standard of construction is lower than E-300, but still higher than competition for the same price. However, what is more important is that Olympus Zuiko Digital Lenses are really ...

Just bought the E500 to offer it to my youngest son,- a a phtography student - but prior to that I've tried the E500 with the two standard lenses. The contenders prior to purchase were the Sony Alpha 100 and the Pentax K100D. Although full of interesting features, the E500 is a camera that is a charm either to novices as well as to more advanced photographers. The kit lenses feel a little on the "cheap" side in terms of overall handling but do deliver quite good images overall.I own several ...

I got rid of a Canon EOS 10D and went for the Olympus about 9 months ago. It is FAR superior in terms of usability and quality of images straight out of the camera. I now have a selection of lenses, both Zuiko Digital and some of the OM lenses that fit with a converter and this is great. BUT, the image size in the viewfinder is miniscule! This really spoils what is otherwise an excellent camera and that is why it only got 3.5 out of 5 from me for ease of use. Come on Olympus, give us ...

I have had the E-500 for the past eight months. Overall, it is a fine DSLR, without forgetting that it is an entry level digital camera. The color offhand is good. The RAW feature makes it even better when I post-process my RAW files according to my likes and tastes. Problems: It is creaking at times. But I do not find this as a major drawback.

the first thing that i felt when I was holding it, was a "very nice to handle" sensation. Very nice design even better than nikon d50, d70 or canon eos rebel xt. VERY NICE colors obtained at DAYLIGHT AND TWILIGHT this is a complete camera but lets go to the PROBLEM part. Problems: FOCUS.- Dificult to get a good focus at night for panoramic long exposure pics. The viewfinder does not provide enough light to perform this action MANUALLY with ease and autofocus is not accurate enough in ...

Bought this cam in Europe 2 months ago, it is a Made in China, in Europe it seems all Olym E500's are Made in China. Kit lens is 17.5-45mm, seems cheapest lens. Pros: -- ergonomic build -- rich features -- easy to use menu -- clear & large LCD screen (but see problem below) -- image quality, hard to say, I have never produced sharp image as sample ones provided by dpreview.com. Natural color. Problems: Cons -- plastic body, not very solid feel -- small viewfinder -- difficult focus, minimum 3 ...
