I see some people on this forum speaking highly of this little lens, but others refer to it as "good" or in one case recently "quite good" as though they are speaking condescendingly of a poor relation who is maybe a bit soft in the head. The M.Zuiko 9-18mm is a very nice, good UWA Zoom. Its outstanding strength is its small size and weight. DPreview has reviewed the lens, there isn't much to add. The first point I would like to add is that this lens shows its good performance also with current M4/3 caneras, in my case the Panasonic GX7. My lens has got broken after three years of gentle use. The lens electronic contacts started to give me trouble for some time, with message "Please check the status of a lens" keep to appear after extending and zooming the lens. External e-contacts are clean and appear fine. The optical quality of the lens is OK, passable, but it was nice to have a compact lens.

Used on a GF1, this lens as photozone put it is almost a "masterpiece" of engineering. Is it perfect? no it isn't. It doesn't come with a hood and the optional one is bulky, and can't be stored in reverse by all accounts. What makes this lens great is the size and the weight. Quite simply, there is little of both. Optically speaking it is close to the quality of a Sigma 10-20 f4-5.6, which isn't a bad lens either.
