I've heard here and other places that MFT zoom lenses, by the nature of the system, work best at the wide open for all focal lengths. And that stopping down doesn't really do much, and that anything much over f/8 is not worth using. I just did a series with the Olympus 12-50 on my OM-D: Aperture priority, AF on a tripod with stabilization off. I expected to see better distance detail with the lens stopped down but an overall reduction in IQ close and middle, but didn't expect to see better...
Hi, I went to Niagara Fall to take pictures. Because I remember OMD EM5 and its 12-50mm kit Lens, which are the camera and lens I were using, are weather sealed, I kept taking picture even when the mist and water splashed onto the camera and lens. After 12-50mm kit lens dried up, the water/mist left a lot of water stain on it. I have the silver version of E-P5, and my stores do not have the 12-50 silver version lens on shelf. How is the color match? Is it the same silver color at my top housing as at the lens? Checking this one http://www.four-thirds.org/en/special/matching.html gives me a color difference.... /Stig
I have booked a trip consisting of India, China, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Singapore starting in January for a total of 7 months, lucky me! But what I wanted to ask was the opinions of what gear to take along. I am interested in buying an OM-D E-M5 to replace my E-PL3 and I am going to limit myself to 3 or 4 lenses to keep weight down. I will be taking a variety of shots both indoors and out and at night, and want to have a range of focal lengths including a...
Hi, I've got a M.Zuiko Digital 75-300mm f4.8-6.7 II Telephoto Zoom and M.Zuiko Digital 12-50mm f3.5-6.3 Standard lens for my OM-D and have bought three 58mm Hoya filters which fit fine with the telephoto lens. For the 12-50, I bought a 58-52mm step-down ring wrongly thinking that filter size is the same as I needed for the 52mm step-down. The 58-52 is too big for the 12-50 lens as it is the same diameter as the front of the lens, not the size of the thread to screw the step-down ring...
I am ready to buy Olympus OMD EM-5, and, although originally planning to buy the kit with 12-50mm lens, I am thinking to buy the body AND a quality lens. On a budget. So that means only one lens.I was about to grab the EM-5 kit that comes with the weather-sealed 12-50mm. But even the best reviews demonstrate a lack of sharpness in the mid-range.Everything I read about the Olympus 45mm 1.8 says it's a sweet, not-too-pricy portrait and general use lens. And there's a $150 rebate right now!Would...
