Opinion: I purchased the 810 myu yesterday from Akihabara in Tokyo for ~$430AU. I'm really happy with that price!
Construction I gave 4.5 because everything about the camera feels solid and it's good to hold in the hand. But the rubber hinge on the USB door I felt could have been better to complete the overall feeling of a good solid camera.
Features... I'm loving everything to do with it! For a P&S camera what more could you need? Nothing! If you want more get a dSLR.
I've only taken a couple hundred photos since my purchase yesterday and as far as I can tell the quality of the images is superb. Definitely use the custom settings for the best result as the Automatic function just can't beat a good set of eyes.
It's extremely easy to use, extremely. I was to find how to switch it from Japanese to English immediately. The menus are very intuitive.
As for the price, you can't beat Akihabara on value there. Included I got a 1gig Olympus xD card also and I purchased a spare battery for $20AU.
Problems: I would have liked the LCD screen to have come with a small piece of plastic to protect the screen. This is another couple of dollars I shouldn't have to purchase. But this is hardly a big problem.
To Danny_photolover; it's not a video camera!
Opinion: Got the camera for one day. I found the image quality is OK in good lighting condition. The build quality of the camera is good. Also it is very light and small in size.
Problems: Lots of noise when photo in low light condition. Limited continues shooting ability. The biggest problem I had was when shooting video, audio record very loud internal camera noise. I will send the camera for a exchange
Opinion: Great camera, had it two weeks and loving it. Olympus doesnt promote one feature of the 810 that is unique and to my knowledge no other camera has:
- It can ZOOM in and out during video!
To do this you must have the "Digital Zoom" ON (in the menu selection)
Opinion: I originally bought the 720 SW, but was very unhappy with the indoor image quality, although I loved everything else about the camera. I decided that maybe the problem had to do with the internal, optical zoom mechanism instead of the standard type of zoom (I don't even really know what the difference is). I decided that I would give this a try, especially since Best Buy offered to waive the restocking fee if I wasn't happy. Outdoor pictures were good, but the indoor picture quality was very poor, equivalent to the 720 SW with the grainy quality, especially on the dark colors.
Problems: Indoor picture quality was very poor. I think that the 720 SW is a better camera, but I won't stand for either of them with the poor picture quality. Both of them have already been returned to the store.
