Opinion: As a second camera to my DSLR, I was looking for a camera that would offer me features, besides the size being smaller. The 33ft underwater capability is one of the nicest features this camera has to offer. I don't have to worry about the camera being fragile, since it is crushproof up to 220lb and shock proof up to 5ft. The last feature I like is the ability to leave it in my car when it gets cold, since it has a 14 degree point, until it stops working.
Problems: The menus aren't laid out as easy, and to change scene modes you have to push the same button three times just to get to the menu. I also would rather it have manual features.

So......... How do I start a rant!
I know I was impressed like the dickens when I read all the propaganda that Olympus put out on this new model (see my initial comments on 03-19-07), however comrads read on...
First time in the water it worked just like they said it would, took reasonably good pictures. Then day two I got all carried away with myself and took it into the surf to get some cool wave pictures and got hit with a small wave and the lense cover quit working, no worries I said, it's still taking pictures, we'll just get it fixed when we get home from vacation.
Day three, we go for a quick snorkel in 1.5m of water, I turned it on and Fizzzzzzzzzzzzz. Yep, busted, filled the puppy up to the eye teeth with salt water. Sent it back, havent heard from Olympus yet.
My 14yr old son has a Pentax WPI that he tortures regularilly, bullet proof in all situations. If you are interested in a good outdoors camera the WPI or its spawn W30 would be a better choice, although the camera is rated for 1.5m we routinely take it down to the 5m mark. I watched him take a 4m dump skiing with it in his pocket and it still ticks along.
I'm a little embarrased to admit to purchasing this thing, never have I felt so used by an organization as I do with this thing. My D5 would have lasted longer under water than this thing.

Wicked features..... like 5 years ago if you told me I could shoot in up to 10m water, yep, you know I'm not wrighting what I would have sed.....
Any how, I purchaced it as a second camera, one that I could take flyfishing and Kayaking without having to poop myself every time pulled the ol' D5 out of the Pelican case for a quick shot.
Problems: Canned shot mode is difficult but manegable, no program mode.
SDX........ WTF over, dont see why they need a propriatary memory system when most of the free world can make do with SD or compact flash.
Canned shot mode takes a bit button pushing to get into. I havent quite got it figured how to get it into program mode.
Opinion: I have been waiting for this camera to use as my boat and beach camera.
It is a great alternative to messing with housings for underwater or beach use, but I
don't think it is good enough to replace my regular compact cameras. (I have the
Panasonic LX2 and the Casio EXZ1000)
It is annoyingly slow to focus with considerable shutter lag. I am irritated watching
the little red light blinking after every shot while it is writing to the XD card.
But I just jumped into the pool to take a few shots of my baby daughter underwater
and that was worth every penny.
Problems: Just a very slow camera by todays standards
Opinion: Bought the 770SW three days ago and have had the time to really read and play with the Camera,it has a great array of options, you just have to get to know the Camera and all will fall into place, have not tried it in water yet,but performs fantastically in all other operations, even the movie mode.
I have the Olympus 750 ultra Zoom and the Nikon D-70, but this camera ia a tank and it's a do anything, anytime Camera, you just don't have to worry too much abot it,you will never miss aperfect picture again in water or on land.Hats off to Olympus.
Problems: None as yet, I see complaints of writing to card speed, well! Use the super sequential shooting mode and see if it is still a problem and look at the results. thanks for your time.. I would recomend anyone to buy this camera, hands down, for what it has to offer.
My Apoligies this should have gone in the box above.
On the 4-th May 07, went into the water for the first time with the Camera, must say I tested the 3 or 4 Water modes and all work extremely well! The pictures came out crisp and really look lovely,Sorry to see in someones recent post that his 770 leaked and stopped functioning, mine worked fine and when on the surface of the water again i just blew the water out of the lens with a quick blow from the mouth and surface pics were clean and clear with all water droplets now blown away from the lense. When returned home soaked camera in large container with fresh water for about 15 minutes, turned on and off a number of time to make sure shutter cover was totally clean of any debris, blew important areas with my mouth again, put to dry for a while, then opened the USB port compartmen and the Battery compartment and all were bone dry.
I am very pround to own this camera and now have many more pictures to my collection than I would normally have as I now keep it in it's Silicone case(To stop scratches) in a leathert case made by Olympus for the camera and keep it on a strong snapfit leash around my neck as now have the capability of a totally all weather camera thus there is no need to miss anymore picture perfect moments. Many thanks again Olympus.
