Opinion: I bought this camera with airmile reward points after my olympus d395 got broken when slamed in my rv door. Since it was 3.2 meg ,it was good to find the 740 with better zoom feature .I liked it when I took it out of the box ,charged the battery and tried it out .The zoom feature was a nice treartt after my old one.Being a holiday type photo taker (not pro) I found the pictures fine and dandy .I also liked the weather proof feature as just before the old camera got slammed in the door ,we were at the hotsprings taking pictures as the steam rose around us ..after we left we noticed the lcd kinda not looking so good ,and the pictures we took were real faded ..Certainly not the cameras fault .But the stylus 740 is weather proof ,and probably would be ok in that situation.

Problems: Now for my gripes..
The battery you get is rechargable and to buy a spare it costs $65.00 here in Alberta.(the old one used AA's ,and we have lots).
The camera is very sleek and can very easilly slip out of your hand (and has).
The worst thing is in sunlight ,not just bright sunlight ,any sunlight ,you can not see anything on the Lcd screen as it completly fades out .This camera does not have a peep hole so in sunlight we don't take pictures .or should I say "can't" take pictures ..it sure is frusterating . to hope to be pointing at the object, and as for guessing about focusing ...good luck ..
So I telephoned Olympus. I'm registered to own many Olympus cameras ,My first one a XA back in 1979 or so ,I fell in love with ,and bought only Olympus ever since. They told me to go buy a screen cover for game boy and put that over the LCD ,off to walmart I went as Olympus instructed,Walmart doesn't have them ..Some other place said they had somethinf for $27.00 .
At this point I e-mailed Olympus and they told me they could not supply me with a free screen cover as they don't make any ,and those who do are experts in the field and I should buy one from a big chain store . Still $27.00 .
That took the cake,I weas getting ready to take a 7 day motocycle trip and needed a camera ,I started looking for cameras and considered anything but Olympus.
I found a real great camera by kodak (easyshare Z710 ) .
I guess I just kept thinking Olympus was the greatest after my XA purcase (which I still own). Looking back I'm sure the cameras they produced were average at best ..Ill never own one again (except my XA)
My wife takes the 740 clubbing with her girlfreinds ,and it takes bar room photos great for her .She recharges the battery after each night out.

Opinion: This is a very interesting model,, sometimes compelling, other times disappointing. Color very vibrant, does faces well , 5x zooms shows why every camera should be at least like this

Problems: Problems:s where this does not exactly well. The color has green hue and outdoors does not get leaves as in trees well sort looks mushy, and I think the sensor needs to be bigger The weird green just don't look natural except in bright light which for some reason then makes it look fantastic. The door to battery broke ( cheap) and brite technology while good sometimes brights out other times., I think if your going to spend 300 better make the door to camera a little sturdier. There is noise in low light.

Opinion: After 8 weeks of use the shutter styarted to play up and the flash ceased working. It was returned under warranty to Olympus but their response was that "due to its age or lack of spare parts" it could not be repaired so would we like to buy an Olympus 710 for $214?
Prizes go to whoever can guess my reply.

Problems: Failed after 8 weeks out of the box

Opinion: I've a lot of cameras, up to 1ds. Got this because I wanted something pocketable for particular occasions.
You cannot see the screen in really bright sunshine and there's no optical viewfinder. Mind you most of its competitors are similar I imagine. Allowing for the 5x zoom, image quality is good. Some edge softness at particular focal lengths. Very easy camera to use but I don't think I'd buy one again. I'd get one with an optical viewfinder and a shorter zoom, with better lens quality.

Problems: No.

Opinion: GREAT CAMERA!! when i first got this i loved all the easy shooting modes, the image stabalization was the best i've seen in awhile. Even though im a beginner i caught up fast with the different settings. if your looking for a nice sleek, point and shoot camera this is what you want. The rechargable battery is a great feature and some of the pictures are even high quality.

Problems: some pics are a bit grainy in incadescent light. but none the less nice.

alot of trouble with physical movement. In some cases, if you move the slightest inch while taking a picture [lets say in night mode, which for some reason takes a long time] the whole picture is blurry

Opinion: This camera has all the features and more. The ability to see what you are shooting even in the dark is great.

Opinion: The pictures are grainy in low light. other than that This is a pretty good camera. feels solid like if I dropped it it wouldn't quit. (not trying it though!) lots of "settings" for beginners and people who just want to take a picture and not worry. comes with presets for things like Indoor, outdoor, portrait, theres a museum setting... lots of different settings. 5X zoom is real nice especially for a Point and shoot! There is even an image stabilization. I beleive it is only software based though... but I read the 750 has both physical and digital image stabilization. Nice size kind of a wedge shape a little weird but great for one handed shots because the thicker end is where you would hold it!!

so for me I like it.

Problems: Grainy pictures in low light. biggest downer.

the cable looks like a standard usb cable but it's a slightly different shape.

doesn't come with a memory card. but I don't think any cameras do that now a days.

no viewport. just screen.

doesn't come with a case. not even a sleeve. but again I haven't bought a camera in a while so I bet most don't come with this either. cool cause I got a nice lowepro.

oh and if you want a case the Lowepro D-pods 10 fits it nicely. neoprene just slides right in and has a velcro top. doesn't make it that much bigger.

I think I must of bought it close to its release date because it was a bit expensive. but not much more than the other cameras I was looking at.
