Opinion: I threw everything at this camera.
Diving well bellow its limit or immerging it in icy water, throwing it like a rag on a dirt floor, sitting on it or breaking nuts with it (yes). All it collected is a few scratches and bruises but it still work like a charm.

Ho ... I also took pictures with it and well... not so good. :-)
But what can I say, I love its look and the fact that it can take any punishment. Its an ok camera for social events or parties and I can put it in my pocket and forget about it.

So while I know it's completely subjective, i'll give it 5 stars.

Problems: Picture quality very limited. Video is hum hum...
Only 35mm

Opinion: Took great pics while snorkeling in Alaska and the Carribean. At least when compared to a disposable underwater 35mm camera. Good image quality in sunlight. OK flash pictures. Some low light shots are soft.

Dislikes: Resets user settings when shut off. Difficult to use controls underwater (like when snorkeling).

My summary: If you want an all around camera that you can drop and get wet, this is a good choice. If you plan to have another primary camera when you are out of harm's way, that is better as everyday shots may disappoint you when on dry land.

UPDATE 8-08:
My son used this on a canoe trip in Canada and managed 430 shots (!!) with the single battery he took. He did this by turning the camera on, taking the shot and shutting it off. No previewing, editing, etc. It lasted a week! The pictures are good, especially in good light.

We continue to be pleased with this little beast.

Opinion: i like that camera, very good looking,
nice pictures.
that camera is not a professional camera, because there is not Shutter/Aperture priority, but for family use and childrens its great ! because of the shock & water proof.

Problems: the interface is sometimes a little bit complicated...
but u can download languages from olympus site into your camera.

Opinion: Nice piece of rock !! i have no worries when my 720sw is in my daughters' hands... even in my naughty nephews' hands...

handy for me as my family do swimming and snokerling oftenly...

it's a camera with basic features... just the basic !!!

Problems: Dislikes about this camera :
1. reset back to P mode whenever camera switch on
2. USELESS anti-shake - doesn't Olympus know their product have high noise on high ISO ??!!!
3. long battery charging time
4. only if the zoom can get wider
5. only if the zoom can get longer

Opinion: I bought this camera in May 2006, and it has had two big vacations since, plus many
small events. For a camera that can be in your pocket, in the pool, and dropped on a
parking lot (Oops-I did it!) it is wonderful. People complaining about indoor quality
appear to have missed the secret weapon--the available light mode (mode 10). At this
mode it generates about a half-sized picture, but with the equivalent of ISO 2500-and
a much cleaner picture than regular ISO 1600. For an added bonus, this doubles the
number of pictures the memory card can hold. I only use the full size 7.1 picture
outside or with flash. Camera often over-exposes, so manually adjust brightness.

Problems: I graded down on "Ease of use" because the scene modes, such as available light,
are awkward to get at. The camera turns on to program mode, then can be cycled
to anti-shake mode, and finally to scene mode. At least it offers the last used mode
first. This is a considerable penalty for turning off the camera, which needs to be
done whenever possible, because the other big problem is short battery life. I own
three batteries, and on a busy outing can run down all three. I also wish I could
lock ISO-2500 to keep shutter short. This said, I have taken hundreds of pictures
with this camera, and I love it! But I also have a camcorder and a DSLR for when I
am not jumping in lake, and want the best picture I can get.

Opinion: Some of the comments here surprise me. The 720 does indeed not produce stellar indoor pictures, but I did not buy this waterproof/shockproof camera to use at home. The camera does very well in rough and wet environments. I've had it in a swimming pool, a lake and have also taken it kayaking on the ocean where it got dunked in saltwater oftens, and it lets me gets shots that I would not otherwise have been able to get. I even managed to drop the camera from above six feet onto rocks, and it didn't even blink. As the old jingle went, " It takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin".
I must be one of the few who love the menu structure - it is genius that it resets after being turned off, to prevent the preoccupied user from taking shots in whatever mode they had it in last, forever. I've also not had the water problem on the lens. After saltwater use, I rinse it in fresh water, then use ordinary tissue paper to soak up the water on the lens. I leave the lens barrier open to speed up drying.
I'd buy it again, because it does just what it was designed to do. Sure, you can add waterproof case to other compacts, but that makes them anything but.

Problems: No problems - just a couple "bewares":
Batteries don't last long. I bought a couple Power 2000 replacements for less than 50% of the Oly version and they actually outlasted the Oly original batteries.
Don't buy this camera for indoor pictures. The flash is so close to the lens that you are guaranteed to get dust particle reflections. And image quality is niggling indoors.
Use in P mode and set the ISO no higher than 200.
Camera is tiny - learn to keep elbows against body for stable shots or body movement - not image quality issues - will mess up your shot.

Opinion: I shot several hundred underwater images in the Virgin Islands with this camera and was generally pleased with the results. I forced it to flash most of the time and kept the ISO at 100 to minimize noise. The snorkeling shots all had a strong bluish color, but they cleaned up nicely with Adjust-Auto Color in PhotoShop. I attached a thick rubber band to the strap for greater security against loss. The dry land photos were average to disappointing compared to my Sony R1, but it was great to be able to have all the underwater shots from our vacation.

Problems: Hard to see the screen in some lighting conditions. The battery wore down pretty fast since I was using the flash most of the time underwater. Also, you have to be alert that there aren't drops of water on the lens when you're shooting out of the water. Water gets trapped under the little lens cap, and beads will distort parts of the pictures. I made a point to open and shut ("on"--"off") the lens cap several times, carefully drying the lens with a soft cloth each time. This seems like a design flaw.

Opinion: The camera is like an Abrams tank with 1930's technology. It will take the shock of
a short fall and some time in the water but thats about all its good for. The only
negative about the construction is that the buttons are really small for a person with
large hands.

As far as features it comes pretty loaded for a camera in its price range but it would
be nice to more manual controls. It is also pretty easy to use.

Problems: Hmmm, how can I put it? The image quality on this camera is sh*t. You get very
granular pictures especially when dark colors like black or involved. I exchanged the
first one b/c of this after I called Olympus and they told me it was just defective.
Basically, get this camera if you want a tank like camera that will get you a picture just
about anywhere but just BEWARE that the picture you get will more than likely not be
worth the paper its printed on.

Opinion: Bought this camera while on vaction and it has proved to be great for a point and shoot camera. It is easy to use and I find that I have not had one blurry picture. I have used it in the gulf of Mexico waters when I was in Florida USA and believe you me it was great. Crystal clear pictures. I took it in the water and I had other people come over to see what camera I had and to see the pictures I took. They were impressed on the pictures. I can not wait for my next vaction Hawaii and be able to take the underwater shots for sure. The wife also finds the camera terrific and easy to use except she would have like to be able to zoom in more on subjects that she was taking pictures of however that is why I also have an Olypus C-750 ultra zoom for her to also play around with. She has taken great pictures on both cameras. Overall I'm impressed with the camera and yes I did buy the extended warranty just in case the seals go on the camera before my next vaction (then it would be a straight swap for a new one).

Problems: Have not had any yet however will keep you posted if any show up.
