Opinion: I got for off the cuff photos, mainly for outdoor, in-weather types and night shots. I like the small in pocket convenience but would also liked to have an eye viewfinder than just the dislpay for tighter shots and ease of use in bright sunny conditions. Nice resolution and bright display...Overall, I liked it except for all the problems I've encountered (see below). Not a bad deal if you like this sort of camera.
Problems: I must have gotten a "possessed" model...Used it for a few weeks and was fine but then it started acting up: turning-off just when I was readt to shoot, turning off/on when viewing, have to take out battery / reinstall to get it to turn on again, freezes, won't turn on, etc. Sent back and worked okay for about an hour when started doing the same thing. Now it dosen't work at all...Will have to send back AGAIN...I've missed a lot of good photo opportunities because of the down time. I've had other Olympus cameras but I don't think I'll buy another product from Olympus when there's so many other manufacturers out there doing basically the same thing / have the same product...Some at better prices. In hind-site, I think I would have bought a Sony...Better camera for about the same price.
Opinion: I bought this as a party camera. I didn't expect anything else and it is perfect!
For instant showing of pics the LCD with Bright Capture (or whatever it is called) is excellent. The movies are so much fun, it may only be 15fps but they can go on forever (on 1gb card. maybe a bit of exaggeration, but certainly prefer it over 1000fps for only 15secs.)
I don't use image stabilisation too much - too noisy, but using program and adjusting ISO to a medium value works well and not too difficult.
I don't bother using anything above 5mp, quality goes down hill afterwards and just creates excessively large file sizes, but 5 is plenty enough for an 8x10 print for fun.
Problems: Construction: 4.5 - claims to be weather proof - I haven't had internal problems, but I don't think it likes salt water spray, the surface paint is starting to bubble and peel!
Features: 5.0 - even a little overboard - 7mp?
Image Quality: 2.5 - this is being truthful - it isn't great by any means, but as I said, for my uses it is fine. But I doubt many people are considering it for a serious camera anyway.
Ease of Use: 5.0 - fine, no complaints
Value for money: 5.0 - at the end of the day I don't care what happens with the camera, I'll take it anywhere regardless of the conditions, its not something I need to put away in the safe box for fear of losing a huge investment.
Opinion: Pictures taken in rooma are verry bad. Outside are good. Movie only 15 frame per second! Inside memory only 19MB. Quick zooming. Battery life too short(120 pics). Waterproof- dont try this! With price 270 Euro in Estonia You can buy much better camera!
Opinion: Excellent camera. Value for money. Great images so far.
Great movie clips as well.
Problems: Got to remove the battery to charge with the standard charger.
Opinion: Great camera and great results. Learn to use all the features of this camera as it is packed with them. I strongly recommend obtaining a shade cover for the LCD screen. It makes a huge difference when shooting outdoors in strong sunlight
Problems: Video is only 15 frames per second.
Opinion: I have this camera for 2 weeks and its really a great digital camera , I like it , it looks so cute and very light, I can hold it in my pocket.
Because I m not an expert I like its image quality , it s really nice for me.
This camera is simply better than the 3.0 mp camera I had before.
Its worth its value.
Problems: not yet
Opinion: I've had the camera a week now and I am very pleased. Outdoor shots are great and can be printed at A4 with no problem - I even printed at A3 and the result is very acceptable. In low light just make sure you keep the sensitivity at 200 or less and all is fine. If you use auto you may find more noise than you want as the camera selects a higher speed and reduces picture quality (to mask the noise??). I also have the underwater housing and with an Epoque strobe the first piccies are great.
Problems: None to date
Opinion: This is defniitely a camera which places style over substance. The body looks good and feels great in the hands - perfectly sized for slipping into shirt pockets and light enough that you almost forget it's there. The LCD screen is bright and of sufficient resolution to be useful, although bright light makes it difficult to see. Controls are small but not too fiddly, menu system is (mainly) sensible and clear, and there are lots of "scene" modes for specific subjects & environments.
Problems: However, even at the highest resolution/quality setting, the image quality is disappointing. Things look fine on the LCD screen, but larger views reveal an overall soft focus which doesn't respond too well to sharpening in software. Noise isn't too bad at the lowest ISO ratings, but by far my largest gripe is the terrible JPEG compression noise even at high resolution (least compression) - colour bleeding, granularity, general loss of detail etc. At the time of writing there are no Mju 700 images in the DPREVIEW gallery, but if you look at the Stylus 800 images there, you'll see the same problems as found in the Mju700. There are many other cameras in this bracket which produce far superior results (e.g. the Sony P200 - images available in the Gallery section). Also, the images seemed "flat" - colours not as vibrant as they should be.
Another issue which buyers should consider is that the lens is relatively slow - f3.4-5.7, compared to many cameras in this class which start at f2.8. The slower shutter speeds which result do not help image sharpness, and the camera's desire to fire the flash in most cases when the lens was used to zoom in, is an irritation and will not help battery life. The "image stabilizer" simply increases the ISO rating (and thus increases the noise) to reduce the exposure time and hence reduce the problem of camera shake - but image quality is seriously compromised, so that in most cases I believe this "stabilization" is of little use.
Overall I regard the slower-than-average optics as a side issue which I could live with. More serious is the compression noise problem. It's such a shame that what should be a terrific go-anywhere camera is blighted by something which could be fixed by a firmware revision - particularly since Olympus have seen fit to fill the existing firmware with what I regard as irrelevant gimmiks like photo-frame overlays, wall calendar generators and banner printing over the shots in-camera - all things which can be achieved by even the simplest of software packages after the images are downloaded. What matters is the basic processing of the images in the milliseconds after the button is pressed. If they got rid of the irrelevant toys and simply added a "raw" file mode, this would be a great little camera. As it is, the Mju 700 (and the Mju 810) is one to miss.
Opinion: A very nice pocket camera.Nice color, nice image quality
and superb build all in a weatherproof package.,
Problems: none
