If you want a camera that can make it through any situation hen this is your camera. This camera is kid proof, my son uses it all the time and it hasn't failed us yet. This was my second in the line now renamed to "tough". I haven't had one fail yet. This is an excellent outdoor camera, in doors due to its tiny sensor and poor flash it can be a challenge. That wasn't what it was made for though :) Problems: It was finally dropped enough to break off the little square around the lens. ...

I recently bought an Olympus 1030SW for a 10 day snorkeling trip to Aruba. It seemed to be the only half-way decent compact waterproof camera available, especially compared to the Pentax cameras. User reviews here were mixed, but I decided to take a chance, buy one and sell it on craigslist if I didn't like the results. It was certainly cheaper than opting for using disposable film cameras and processing! The size and build are very good for an inexpensive camera like this. It fits nicely in ...

Fantastic camera BUT DON'T USE UNDERWATER!!. Very easy to use with good controls but I don't recommend it for ANY underwater use...put this camera in the sink for 10 min and I guarantee there will be condensation inside the battery compartment. Scary! There are a few settings that take some practice to understand how to get to them but the UI is very logical. I got it primarily for it's waterproof feature and build quality...BUT have to recommend NOT to trust this camera UNDERWATER ...

Forget about using it inside with flash. The image quality stinks. The only place you get anything acceptable is outside in bright sunlight. For a 10 MP camera and the cost I was disappointed. I was looking for something rugged and small to carry as a backup. Would not purchase again. Maybe look at the Canon G10 for the extra bucks. Problems: Had to send the camera back because of a couple of bad pixels on the sensor which showed up on all of the prints. Sent it back the second time because ...

I have owned the 1030 SW since early April 2008 as the third in the 720, 770 series (which we still have in the family and won’t give up) and I have been very happy with it. It has all the stability of a tank, resides in my pants pocket for instant availability, and delivers good value. This is a complex camera with a huge number of settings and options, even more than for the 720,770 series. Like the fun it is to estimate the elevation your plane is pressured to or the airport in the Andes ...

Hmmm took the plunge on this cammera with a great degree of hesitation. Image quality is only slightly better than my several years old 3.2 meg P Sony Cybershot. Still it is compact, takes okay Video and I can put it in a shirt pocket, lanyard around my neck, while I kayack or a small case for caving and not have to worry about an enviroment that would kill the average point and shoot. Like the wide angle lens, panorama in camera works well half the time, nice feature even with occasional ...

After many doubts reading reviews here about the Olympus SW Series, I bought this camera a month ago and now after about 1000 photos taken (about 200 diving in the beautiful waters of beautiful Fuerteventura :-) my statement so far: If you handle the camera with care, it is indeed waterproof (I swam everytime about 45 Minutes and had no problems). BUT: Before you have to check it exactly before (sand, hairs at every seal - battery and USB) After under water experience salt water you have to ...

Received this camera today. The still image quality is excellent and I've tried it out taking underwater pictures of my Koi carp in my pond al lwithout any problems (no water leaks on this one!). The features on the camera are pretty impressive, lots of different modes and even an unlimited movie mode without the firmware update (guess they are shipping with the latest firmware already) Image quality and sharpness are great and noise upto iso200 is more than acceptable. Above this it's ...

I bought this camera like everyone else for its underwater ability and I haven't been disappointed. 4 weeks in Hawaii and multiple trips underwater and this camera performed flawlessly. I have taken some great photos that I would otherwise never have had the opportunity to do with a normal point and shoot. Now with the updated firmware the camera just got even better. Problems: When surfacing from taking photos underwater you can get drops of water on the lens that need to be shaken off ...
