Overall great little camera if used for what it was designed for. I've had this one for a bit now and it has been a great little companion for getting into tight spots and coming out with a perfectly usable foto. Underwater is fine, I keep mine lubed up with a high quality silicone lubricant and you will find it aids the watertightness of the system. I find the 5mp resolution to be the least noisy, best results so far has been to force the camera to an ISO of 80 and then work the stops so ...

1030 SW is nicely build and looks ok but I can't stop to think that the image quality is below par. I still have my Canon PowerShot A510 and I always though that images are not so great because it is an old camera. Wrong! Turns out that the camera from 2005 is in fact better then the one from 2009. One shouldn't hold 1030 SW with both hands because the left one will cover the lens. The menu is a bit confuzing but easy to pick up. However I see build quality very good and for theat the price ...

I purchased this camera because I was tired of having to replace cameras due to mechanical failures, and I thought it would be fun to take pictures of the family on the beach. The build quality and ease of use are good as has been the water resistance. I have however been dissapointed with the image qualiy which, in my opinion, is worse than several other digital point and shoot cameras I have owned previously. Problems: Image quality.

Purchased the camera for the weatherproof and durability features which I still think are awesome. I wanted to be able to take the camera out in the rainy weather to take action pictures. However the 1030sw does a poor job in low light conditions with action, the flash doesn't do much good because it washes out the colors and only helps close up. Problems: Camera performs poorly in low light conditions with action. Now, camera has a dot on any pictures with lots of light, it's not on the lens ...

As indestructible a camera as you'll find—more rugged than even the rest of the (current) SW line. Also pretty darned small and reasonably light. I got mine as a "go anywhere any time" adjunct to my DSLR. It performs quite well in that role. Note: I haven't yet had the need/inclination to actually submerge it. The 28mm wide angle is nice, although one does give up a just a hair on the long end compared with the rest of the SW line. I use mine with Micro-SD cards along with the (provided) ...

I needed a camera that could keep up with me on my various trips. most of these trips involve camping of some sort, canoeing, snorkeling and rough terrain. unfortunately the is not much out there that can on the elements. The 1030sw is priced at about 350 CAD, the image quality is similar to something you can get for 150. so basically you're paying 200 bucks for the waterproofness and shockproof. the camera takes good pictures in well lit, mainly out door settings. while indoors in low light ...

To make this short, this camera is only good for outdoor perfect lighting conditions, or underwater photography. For me it basically became as a too-expensive "beater" camera. I took it to Europe thinking that being a 10 mp camera it would be a great all-around shooter, but unfortunately I was a bit dissaponted. The images at 10 mp are very soft and the image quality is very dissapointing in any light condition that is not bright sunshine. Indoors it has difficulty focusing when doing the ...

Just consider it as an all-time underwater hobby camera (shock-proof too, in case of..)! Underwater pictures are OK (nice programs for underwater use), underwater movies are not that bad (Althought, I needed to update its SW, buy a high speed card, not necesarily branded Olympus, and download the recorded movies using propietary SW). The construction material are really excellent and that all!!! Forget to use it as a normal camera...... Problems: Don't use it at 10 Mpix, much better at 5 ...

I have decided not to take this camera underwater in the Red Sea as planned, after reading user reviews describing the potential for leakage via the battery compartment + a professional diver friend has the lower spec model and strongly advised using the waterproof housing which is available but at a substantial cost. At least I won't have to worry about rain, splashes or sand etc. Problems: The lens is far too close to the top corner of the camera so I have captured a number of close-ups of ...

We bought this camera stictly for using as a snorkling camera to go with another brand camera we use for snorkling. We took it to Cozumel at the end of May and spent 5 days with it in the water, averaging 5 hours per day. Using the underwater mode on Macro it did good with a couple of issues. Between our two cameras we took around 400 pictures underwater, about 125 with the Olympus after deleting the worst ones. The macro pictures were good after learning the camera and finding the focus ...
