FAILED in salt water. I had two 1030SW for sea kayaking and both failed after a couple of months. One just leaked a bit and was repaired under warranty and consequently flooded beyond repair (replaced under warranty with Though 8000), the othe rone leaked and was repaired and now corroding badly. The original 720SW was way better it lasted me for about 3 years, the laekd a bit but still usable on land. Image quality of at wide angle, poor at zoom in. I DO NOT RECOMMEND the 1030SW. More ...

DO NOT BUY THIS CAMERA. For a "tough" camera, it's failed too often. Add to that the proprietary storage chip and proprietary USB cable and it's a real pain. Problems: I used this camera for 3 months before the display quit working. It came back from repair and now the USB port connections are bad and it will be returned again.

One thing that has been mentioned briefly but not in detail is the fact that the seals have to be renewed each year. I investigated deeper into this, emailing Olympus. They said first that I could get the seals from Cameras UnderWater but on contacting them, they said they didn't have them and they'd just get them from Olympus. After a lot more emails to Olympus and having to spell things out extremely clearly, I finally pinned them down to an answer: They said "The 2 Year warranty will cover ...

Don't buy this camera!! We used this camera for a while in automatic. What a mistake. Anything other than perfect outdoor lighting conditions came out terrible. They came out unbelievably grainy. I tried to take it back but I exceeded the time limit (14 days) before I took it back. The only way I can get anywhere near acceptable indoor pictures (I take the majority of my pictures indoors) is to set the ISO to 400 and the exposure to +2. It was either that or use ISO 200 and Adobe to ...

I thought the camera performed well as a point and shoot camera. A bit bulk, but it is designed as waterproof and shockproof camera. With this in consideration the bulk is very acceptable and can fit in one's pocket well. It has performed well in image quality and noise in a wide range of situations, from normal outside nature, night photos, and flash portraits in low lighted areas (like clubs). Overall was pleased with it's performance. While, it can't compare to most DSLRs it is also ...

Good camera? yes. Waterproof? not really! I am conflicted on this camera. I have had it for a month and played with it a lot before going to the Carribean sea on vacation. Indoors, outdoors, in a moving vehicle, on the beach, just off the beach in water, in a kayak, it does it all in stride. All my photos were taken at 5MP to save card space. The "shake-proof" mode is uncanny: I took pictures at max zoom bouncing in a bus at 30mph and the pictures were crystal-clear. Too bad it can't be
