As indestructible a camera as you'll find—more rugged than even the rest of the (current) SW line. Also pretty darned small and reasonably light. I got mine as a "go anywhere any time" adjunct to my DSLR. It performs quite well in that role. Note: I haven't yet had the need/inclination to actually submerge it. The 28mm wide angle is nice, although one does give up a just a hair on the long end compared with the rest of the SW line. I use mine with Micro-SD cards along with the (provided) ...

Forget about using it inside with flash. The image quality stinks. The only place you get anything acceptable is outside in bright sunlight. For a 10 MP camera and the cost I was disappointed. I was looking for something rugged and small to carry as a backup. Would not purchase again. Maybe look at the Canon G10 for the extra bucks. Problems: Had to send the camera back because of a couple of bad pixels on the sensor which showed up on all of the prints. Sent it back the second time because ...

I needed a camera that could keep up with me on my various trips. most of these trips involve camping of some sort, canoeing, snorkeling and rough terrain. unfortunately the is not much out there that can on the elements. The 1030sw is priced at about 350 CAD, the image quality is similar to something you can get for 150. so basically you're paying 200 bucks for the waterproofness and shockproof. the camera takes good pictures in well lit, mainly out door settings. while indoors in low light ...

To make this short, this camera is only good for outdoor perfect lighting conditions, or underwater photography. For me it basically became as a too-expensive "beater" camera. I took it to Europe thinking that being a 10 mp camera it would be a great all-around shooter, but unfortunately I was a bit dissaponted. The images at 10 mp are very soft and the image quality is very dissapointing in any light condition that is not bright sunshine. Indoors it has difficulty focusing when doing the ...

Just consider it as an all-time underwater hobby camera (shock-proof too, in case of..)! Underwater pictures are OK (nice programs for underwater use), underwater movies are not that bad (Althought, I needed to update its SW, buy a high speed card, not necesarily branded Olympus, and download the recorded movies using propietary SW). The construction material are really excellent and that all!!! Forget to use it as a normal camera...... Problems: Don't use it at 10 Mpix, much better at 5 ...

I have owned the 1030 SW since early April 2008 as the third in the 720, 770 series (which we still have in the family and won’t give up) and I have been very happy with it. It has all the stability of a tank, resides in my pants pocket for instant availability, and delivers good value. This is a complex camera with a huge number of settings and options, even more than for the 720,770 series. Like the fun it is to estimate the elevation your plane is pressured to or the airport in the Andes ...

I have decided not to take this camera underwater in the Red Sea as planned, after reading user reviews describing the potential for leakage via the battery compartment + a professional diver friend has the lower spec model and strongly advised using the waterproof housing which is available but at a substantial cost. At least I won't have to worry about rain, splashes or sand etc. Problems: The lens is far too close to the top corner of the camera so I have captured a number of close-ups of ...

One thing that has been mentioned briefly but not in detail is the fact that the seals have to be renewed each year. I investigated deeper into this, emailing Olympus. They said first that I could get the seals from Cameras UnderWater but on contacting them, they said they didn't have them and they'd just get them from Olympus. After a lot more emails to Olympus and having to spell things out extremely clearly, I finally pinned them down to an answer: They said "The 2 Year warranty will cover ...

Hmmm took the plunge on this cammera with a great degree of hesitation. Image quality is only slightly better than my several years old 3.2 meg P Sony Cybershot. Still it is compact, takes okay Video and I can put it in a shirt pocket, lanyard around my neck, while I kayack or a small case for caving and not have to worry about an enviroment that would kill the average point and shoot. Like the wide angle lens, panorama in camera works well half the time, nice feature even with occasional ...

Don't buy this camera!! We used this camera for a while in automatic. What a mistake. Anything other than perfect outdoor lighting conditions came out terrible. They came out unbelievably grainy. I tried to take it back but I exceeded the time limit (14 days) before I took it back. The only way I can get anywhere near acceptable indoor pictures (I take the majority of my pictures indoors) is to set the ISO to 400 and the exposure to +2. It was either that or use ISO 200 and Adobe to ...
