I am looking to buy a new camera primarily for my wife and also for my occasional use My hands shake a lot and image stabilization is a big criteria for me. Also I would love to have manual zoom options which I can play around with. outdoors and zoom would be a plus but I am not sure if I can carry around huge lens for that purpose. I have a canon s3 IS and have rarely used it despite the fact that it takes good pictures and videos. My wife (primary user of the camera) could be taking lots of...
Looking for advice on purchasing a new camera. My first digital camera was a Camedia D560. Loved the photos I got with it, but once the kids came along it was too slow between photos to keep up with them. My next one was Kodak Z712. I was very happy with the response time on it, but had to manually set the ISO to 100 in order for the photos to not be grainy. Was not as happy with the overall quality of the photos compared to the Olympus, but needed the faster response time for the kids....

I was wondering which long lens people like with the Olympus EM-5 (and E-PM2 as backup)? Do people like the Olympus 75-300mm or the Panasonic 100-300mm? Now, on the EM-5, the Panasonic's IS would need to be turned off (or the camera's IS turned off). On the E-PM2, I can set the camera to favor using lens IS if it has it over sensor based IS. I suspect lens based IS might be more effective than sensor shift. The Olympus wins out in terms of weight (430g vs 520g), which might be a factor in...
Hi all. New to the forum - seems like a great place to get info. We have a very old digital camera, and it is time to upgrade. We are new to the all great features on the later cameras, and mostly want something to take pictures of grandkids, and for vacations. As long as I am doing it, though, I want to get this camera for a special occasion. I am traveling to Florida later this year to watch the launch of a spacecraft that I have been working on for several years. The observation area is...
Hi, I have a olympus sp 800uz and love the macro/ super macro function and the ability to go to taking shots of buildings or landscape, etc. I can not add filters, uv/polarizer, etc. so I'm looking for a new camera. I am currently looking at the nikon d5100, canon eos t3i. I like to go for walk-abouts and take random shots, macro, landscape, people, etc. I don't want to carry a lot of lenses, two, three at most. My budget is around $600.00. I have been looking at refurbished cameras and...
