Opinion: i'm not impressed.
i own the c40z (aka d40z) - and currently i do not see the appeal in the c50z - except for the 5mpx ccd, it has nothing more to offer me - and i hardly belive, had i had the choice between the c40z and the c50z, i would rather pay the diffrence for the c50z.

Opinion: I don't think c50 is truly upgrade model of C40
no noise reduction
no sound

only good thing is 5MP(but on small CCD)

Opinion: This camera is a very nice camera!

I went looking for a camera that would take GREAT photos and had
solid construction. It also had to work seemlessly with Mac OSX 10.2.
Also my wife should be able to simply pick it up and shoot top notch
pics....

Well after trying out every camera from evey vendor at our local Photo
Expo Demo Days her in Vancouver this camera came out on top.

It is so intuative and the quality of contruction is fantastic!

Improvments over the Olympus C-40:

1. It has an all alloy body - no cheap plastic.

2. It also uses the brand new Sept 2002 just released XD-Picture Card
which will allow up to 8gb of storage. Thats right 8GB - I know 256mb
will do me fine for now, but nice to know I'm not capped out from the
moment I buy the camera.

3. It has a new very ergonomic well balanced design - far nicer than the
boxy C-40.

4. It is 5MP!

5. Uses all the stuff the c-5050z has but in a point to shoot camera
format -well almost - then slens is not as good as the 5050z but then
the 5050z is a prosumer camera.

6. Lithium Ion Battery.

7. Remote Control.

The other people who reviewed this camera are missing these key pieces
of information - in fact they don't even own the camera...What gives
with that?

As I get more details and familiarity with the picture quality I will post
an update, but for now this camera beats out all the below on quality
and usability:

Minolta Dimage F100
Canon Poweshot S45
Fuji FinePix etc.

MAC USERS FYI: A note to users considering cameras in this range - the
software I tried and I downloaded them all, are not all that great with
Mac OSX 10.2 - the one exception was the Olympus Camedia software -
it works seemlessly and is a nice counter point to iPhoto. Olympus really
embraces the Mac platform - check out the brochures from the other
camera makers - OSX support can be very weak! Nikon came second but
their software could not UPLOAD to Nikonnet.com to create photo
albums (missing a NKH Upload Plug File?) or whatever that meant and
is very very JAVA slooooooooow.

Again this is a top notch great little camera. Olympus has scored a hit
here. Definetely worth the look.

Regards Brent :-)

Opinion: Do not buy this camera!! I've owned a camedia 4040, an E-10 an e-20 and a c40. The c50 is the worst one. Image quality it's terrifyng if compared to all the others oly camera, orrible noise, impossible to enlarge prints... Even my old 3030 is better than this beautiful but unusable toy...I'm a professional photographer and i've just pblished a big book all made with oly digital cameras, the first one in italy but the c50......never seen such a noise...

Problems: Great noise .... Only usable in perfect light conditions at 80 asa.
