Opinion: I have the camera for about a year now. Excellent image quality, even when not on highest settings. A very good camera for newbies who want something to experiment on, before moving to pro models.
Problems: Build quality could be better. X3 zoom is often not enough.
Opinion: When you get use of this camera, you will know that this is an excellent digital camerar of 5.0MP, high photos quality and accurate white balance.
Start-up and focus fast and precise.
Long life battery, etc.
Do recommend to all new digital camera users.
Opinion: This camera is a great value. Although I frankly would have preferred the C-5060, the C-5000 offered much of the same quality for a much lower price and was within my budget. Build quality and image quality are excellent. Menus offer many, many choices but are not intuitive. I printed the full manual and have found myself referring to it often. Can get good images by just pointing and shooting, but the manual settings offer numerous options. (Update Aug., 2007. Put the camera away and tried a Canon. Now the Canon is back on the shelf and the C-5000 is back. Why? Better colors, more manual controls, IQ is somehow just nicer. Bought an extra battery to solve short battery life issue. This is an obscure camera, but a good one nonetheless. Try one out if you can find one. You won't be disappointed).
Problems: Flash causes lots of red-eye, even on the red-eye reducing setting. Editing software included with camera does not do a very good job of removing it. (Note: June, 2005. Got Photoshop Elements. Red-eye removal is no longer a problem).
Opinion: Used it for half a year now, everything excellent, high quality photos, user friendly, accurate focus both days and night.
The battery is extremely long life, have taken over 300 photos without replacement.
Opinion: I have owned this camera for a little over a year. This is my second Olympus camera. I have had great luck with the first Olympus digital and wanted more pixels so choose the C-5000. I live in Florida and the sun shines pretty much all the time so it is hard at times to use the screen but I would guess that is the same with all digital cameras. My pictures are clear and the colors is excellent. I have even found that when I have taken pictures in very dark areas the pictures turn out great. Maybe I am not using the camera correctly, for I haven't found a lot of difference when I use the symbols versus auto on the top dial. I have a Hewlett Packett printer which has given me great color pictures and grayscale pictures too. The color seems true to form. I personally like the lith battery versus the AA batteries. For me, the lithium battery seems to keep a charge better. My other Olympus takes AA and I stopped using the rechargeable ones for it seems to run low constantly. It may just be my imagination. There are so many features on this camera that I know I should be using and I only wish a local camera shop had digital classes so that I could utilize my camera to it's fullest. Reading the directions is one thing, but hands on experience taught by an instructor is so much better. I have been very happy with the zoom feature. The red eye is still present even when I put on the feature to eliminate this but once again, I think most cameras seem to have this problem or maybe not. All in all I would recommend this camera. People are always amazed when I show them my prints and tell them that I took it with my digital and printed out myself.
Problems: I have just sent my Olympus C-5000 to extended warranty for my camera was automatically shutting off at random times. Checked the battery and had full charge. I am a little concern since the camera is just over a year. It didn't do it all the time, only when the picture was really needed. Unfortunately, at times it would not turn back on. I will write when I get it back and tell you what they say went wrong. Update: It is December 24 and I am still without a camera. I called the repair place and they say a part is on order. If anyone else has had a problem with their camera automatically shutting off I would love to know. UPDATE: Jan. 20 - I just heard from the repair shop that it will cost more to fix my camera than repair so my extended warranty will be giving me another camera. One of the problems was the power Pvc unit (or at least I think that is what it was called). I guess this is the part that makes it all work. Thanks heavens for extended warranties!! I am requesting my camera be replaced with a different kind - a little over a year and it totally quits after careful use. I will try my look at another model.
Opinion: It is an excellent camera. I have taken hundreds of pictures with it which always gives me amazing images. As a tool, the C-5000 enables the user to take wonderful pictures without the weight and inconvenience of an SLR and a bag full of expensive lenses.
Problems: Not really professional outlook.
