The battery issue is overstated. All documentation states that Alkaline batteries are not to be used, and they do suck. I find I get several dozen, more than 128MB, of flash shots and a few, 3+, 30 sec movies on charged Olympus NiMH 1700mAh. More if I don't review each shot. If I let the batteries rest I can get 10 - 30 shots, depending on usage pattern. I like everything about the camera, except the inability to attach filters and a teleconverter. If I could put a polarizing filter on ...

Its portability really pleases me! I carry my camera wherever I go. The overall quality of the pictures, although not top notch, would satisfy most buyers. I use 1300 mAh (very cheap - bought 8) rechargeables and have no problems whatsoever. I also got two 128MB Smartmedia and, the last holiday, I took just 351 new pictures and two movie clips. Problems: How to handle and store so many pictures I've been taking since I got this marvelous camera? This is a problem I couldn't figure in advance! ...

Truly a pity that this camera has so much chromatic aberation (purple fringing). I had read Askey's review stating that. But the other internet and print reviews either didn't mention it, or thought it was a minor problem. MINOR PROBLEM! - if you don't care about your pictures. The problem is especially pronounced if there are trees with leaves in your picture, with sky showing through the leaves. Kudos to Mr. Askey for being thorough in his reviews and pointing out this issue. I noticed ...

Great camera, This is my sixth digital. Started with Ricoh RDC2, Oly 2000, a smaller Sanyo for pocket. I now own the 4040, Sony 707 and the 40Z. I got it for my 'pocket'camera and in some ways it is better than the 4040. The wheel has some great settings I wouldn't mind on the 4040. The near/far setting for one, nigt setting too. The 404 has a faster lens and much better grip though, I would not give the 4040 or 40 up. The 4040 is my night/indoor camera, better then the 707 or 40 at ...

Excellent but with small reservations. I've had this camera for a few weeks and recently gave it a thorough workout over a weekend in Lille, France. It met and even exceeded most of my expectations. Results are excellent including several 'stitched' panoramas. The answer to the issues surrounding batteries is simple, DO NOT USE THE LCD FOR GENERAL SHOOTING. It's intended to be used for macro/close shots, panoramas (with Olympus media), digital zoom, and image review. Use the viewfinder ...

EATS Batteries! Problems: I've been using 1400 mAh NiMH batteries. When fully charged, I can typically take only 10 pics (with LCD, no Flash) and 2 videoclips (30 sec). After that camera reports low battery !!! I've tried different batteries (always NiMH) and different chargers. Basically it seems, that camera reports low battery all too early... When I move these "dead" or "low" batteries to a flashlight or my Sony CD Walkman, there seems to exist a lot of energy in the "dead" batteris. I ...

Great size for all features. Good software included. Ease to use, great colours, good battery life. Problems: - Chromatic aberration. - After first shot in panorama mode the LCD monitoring is false. - As in all Olympuses the "favorite" colour is red.

I've bought this Cam for ~600€. At this time i know no Cam, who has this quality, this size and this features for that kind of Money !! Fabulous !!! Problems: The biggest SM Card you can buy at this time is a 128MB. This is for an 4 MPixel Cam not enough ! You must use many (expensive) Cards or you use a Storage System like Image Tank or so...

I've had the camera a few months and it stopped working the other day. Only the lcd on top of the camera works.I have sent it back to the shop for repair or replacement. I see on your site other usrers have had the same problem. I have no faith in the camera anymore. If i was to buy another camera it would be a sony dsc85, its a gem. Problems: I dont think the build quality is 100%. It stopped working after about 200 shots.
