Most compact digital cameras are now shaped like a bar of soap and you can only use the LCD to view your subject. I was able to get mine in mint condition on Ebay for $56.00 with it's original box a few memory cards. I agree that Smartmedia cards can be expensive but if you can get them cheap if you can get them at auction prices on Ebay. This camera's F 1.8 lens is perfect for available light "holiday" shots. 4 MP is more than enough for pics up to 11X14 ( and my Pentax 12.4 MP is ) gets ...

This was the first digital camera I ever bought, and I still use it a lot. The reason: the lens! You just can't get an f/1.8 lens on a digital camera. This more than makes up for the lower 4 megapixel sensor. The color, image contrast, and subtlety are vastly better than most other cameras. Expensive at the time, it shows that "early adopters" of new technology sometimes get items with features and build quality never to be found later on. I have an extension tube and a polarizing ...

FROM C-4040 TO SONY V1 -- USING AN OLYMPUS C-4040 FOR 15 MONTHS, AND HAVING TO PHOTO ARTWORKS AND ARCHIVE DOCUMENTS EVERYDAY, I FOUND SONY V-1 VERY HELPFULL, VERY HANDY AND EASY TO USE AND VERY PROMPT FOR WORK ALL TIMES, ONE MONTH NOW. VERY-VERY LOW NOISE, SUPERB LOW-LIGHT BEHAVIOR (BETTER THAN OLYMPUS), GREAT FLASH. I AM A HAPPY OWNER AND DAILY USER. BUT I STIL LOVE MY OLD C-4040 !

Excellent camera! Having used it for one year. Mainly using camera for scientific investigations: in microphotography (making pictures of micro objects through microscope and optical adapter) and for measuring the deformation of various strained girders by myself developed method. I use camera for making usual pictures as well. Outdoors photos are mostly excellent. To achieve high quality of indoors pictures, one should manually adjust settings. The shortage is that pictures at aperture of ...

I have had this camera since sept 2001, with reference to the previous review by Meropy, I can only imagine the camera is faulty. I find the image quality to be fantastic in any light levels. Almost 2 years old now used frequently and never lets me down. If I had one compliant would be the shutter lag, action shots take precise timing.

Absolutely Great Camera. This is/was my first digital camera - I bought it exactly one year ago, and I love it. True, it does take a little time to learn the controls, but it is well worth a little TLC. In one year I have gone from a complete non-photographer(especially digital) to an above average novice. This camera was well worth the money...although, now it is well below what I originally paid for it. Another good aspect is the ability to purchase lenses and filters...yet, probably not ...
