I have had this camera since sept 2001, with reference to the previous review by Meropy, I can only imagine the camera is faulty. I find the image quality to be fantastic in any light levels. Almost 2 years old now used frequently and never lets me down. If I had one compliant would be the shutter lag, action shots take precise timing.

Not happy at all. My problems are with focusing and exposure (especially in low light but not only) in automatic mode. Colours are washed out with no contrast and everything with a magenta tinge. The camera sets its own focusing point very close to the lens no matter at what distance the subject is. Group photos are terrible with everyone out of focus. Printed photos are definitely not acceptable. I returned the camera to Olympus just before it was out of warranty - they said there was ...

Absolutely Great Camera. This is/was my first digital camera - I bought it exactly one year ago, and I love it. True, it does take a little time to learn the controls, but it is well worth a little TLC. In one year I have gone from a complete non-photographer(especially digital) to an above average novice. This camera was well worth the money...although, now it is well below what I originally paid for it. Another good aspect is the ability to purchase lenses and filters...yet, probably not ...

I noted that one user complained about the "cheesy construction" .... I dropped mine off the top of my car traveling 40 mph .... no problem except the shutter buttion popped out ... Olympus sent me one free Not bad for cheesy construction!

Excellent, I've had it more than 6 months now. I presently own the Sony 707 an Oly c40 too. The reason features doesn't get a '5' is because it doesn't have that dial that l the c40 and 5050 have. Ease of use the same thing, plus no printed manual. I realize a lot of companies are doing that, but how CHEAP! It is one TOUGH camera. A couple weeks ago I dropped it and the lens was skewed to the side. I thought 'it is now useless'. I turned it OFF, whacked the lens in with the palm of my hand ...

I bought this camera on sale for 799 (Canadian). I've only had it a few weeks and I really like it. The features and the price really attracted me to it. It's lightweight, but still feels pretty solid. The image quality is very good, so far. I found the menu system to be super intuitive, and you can even assign a function to a 'hot key' on the back of the camera as a shortcut. I assigned the black and white/sepia/normal setting to this button since I enjoy taking b/w type photos. Especially ...

I needed to start offering digital services to some of my customers, mainly product photography and I have to say that this camera delivers more than what anyone could ever expect from such a small package. The black and white images I capture are incredible! Color is really accurate, and the interpolated mode really does give you a high quality image. Olympus has really outdone themselves with this camera. I can't wait to use their E20 or newest version of this camera the C5050z. I use ...
