Opinion: I have had the 3020 Zoom for over a year now. I thought the features packed into this camera would satisfy my desire for creative shots. There is an element of this camera that always impresses me. Menu system is user friendly. Take your time with learning what the menu system means and does to your pics. practice taking many shots of the same scene with different settings so you know what this camera is doing to your pictures. It will only take pictures as good as you know the settings. It is the menu options that you have to know intimately so you know best how to take the kind of picture you want. If you only want point and shoot this camera is great. If you want to expand your photography this camera is a great tool to learn photography. But always remember that any camera will never see quite what your eyes see. Knowing the difference between your eyes and the camera's limitations is the beginning of learning how to shoot properly.

Problems: The biggest drawback is not having control over manual focus. For instance if you wanted to shoot a group of flowers and you wanted pick a certain flower to be in focus and the rest blurred...good luck getting such a shot. Sure you can use Aperature mode but you are still letting the Camedia decide to focus. Here the camera has two settings for focus. iESP or SPOT take your pick. iESP tries to focus the whole scene. SPOT setting attempts to focus the center of the scene. Olympus improved this dilemma when they introduced the 5050. Here with a manual override adjustment feature you can decide to focus a certain part of the scene in your viewfinder.
I was not impressed with the fill in flash feature. Here teh shutter speed on the Camedia drops down too slow in indoor light scenes that you need a tripod. But with normal flash this camera is fine. At least you have control if you want flash on or off.
Another drawback is not having a hotshoe flash feature. This I wish I had on this camera. I like to get creative with light. Finally I realize this is only a rangefinder with a LCD screen to look at your pics. I thought this would be a good sub for a simple SLR feature. I was wrong there. Framing good pics must be done with a little extra on the edges at times and then trim off excess in photoshop later. But with all I have mentioned this camera has turned out some amazing results and great pics that I can still learn and expand with.

Opinion: This is my second digital camera. My first one was the Olympus C2000zoom. Works great, but its features are nothing comapred to C3020.

Great pictures. Very user friendly. I am very fascinated with the way it records the videos. Very very very nice pictures taken.

Two thumbs up!

Problems: None at all.

Opinion: This is my 2nd digital camera. The first was a HP612. I bought the C3020 based on the review on this board. So far I am not disappointed as it does have excellent picture quality, and especially in low light/indoor conditions as other posters have stated. It does do well without the flash. The night scene program is almost useless without a tripod though and will blurr the picture. Sport program does capture images without blurr--even water over a waterfall. It may wash the picture out a little bit compared to Program mode.

The HP612 had a 3/2 length/width ratio of picture and is excellent for pictures used as backgrounds on your desktop. The 4/3 of the Olympus is different and I have had to change all the formats in my world processor. The HP612 is very easy to download pictures, but the C3020 takes a little more time. I agree with other posters that what you see through the viewfinder is not what the image will capture. Great image quality though and this camera is a keeper.

As far as pictures being too dark there are a couple of adjustments--set the exposure button up to 0.3 or 0.7 positive. Or in "My Mode" set exposure button up. Or go to Apeture priority mode and set it for 2.8 which is maximum light. Then set the exposure up by .3 or .7--it will go as high as 2.0. Also you can set the "sharpness" up a little bit that may make the picture more clear and a little brighter. The Camedia photo edit software that came with the camera is also good. You can do a lot better with the picture after it comes out of the camera.

My pics BEFORE I really learned how to use this camera:

Problems: I've noticed the zoom isn't linear at the start and end of its run--it sort of jerks fast at both limits. Also the clicking noise when the camera powers up and the lens extends--as other posters have noted. These aren't really problems unless they fail.

Opinion: I’ve had my c3020 for just over a year now and love the features and quality of the pictures up until recently. For some reason all my pictures now appear dark. I do not use my own printer, I use an online service. Has anyone else experienced this problem? If so, is this a mechanical problem that can be fixed?

Thanks…

Problems: Lens cap, just remember to remove it.

Opinion: This is my first digital camera. I was looking for a general use camera, easy to use and offered decent performance. I'm not experienced enough to be nit-picky about cameras, but did my homework for a few months and went by reviews and I knew what my needs where.
The Oly 3020 has more then exceeded my needs.
Picture quality, ease of use, durability (so far after 3 months of solid use, I have taken it mountain biking with me on a few occasions, although I never crashed while I had it, it can certainly handle heavy movement while in my backpack...in a padded case), overall performance...it's all there. Not only am I pleased with the general performance, this camera has opened my eyes to the whole new hobby of photography. With all the adjustments avail on the camera, I have started to go beyond the auto-point/shoot mode and tried my hand in manual shooting. I now find myself trying different angles and views, always looking for a great shot...all in the meantime, slowly but surely learning what all the functions can do or offer me.
For the highly experienced or professional photographers, yeah, there are better choices (at a higher price tag) but for my needs and performance-requirements, it has gone way beyond and more. I'm extremely happy with it.

Problems: Ok...the lens cap. VERY common complaint and rightfully so. Design engineers really should have taken account in the "Opps, I forgot" factor and attached the cap to the moveable lens housing. Hopefully the internal gears can hold up to many "Opps, I forgot" the lens cap during power-up.
As for battery comsumption...not so good. I really suggest getting rechargeables, highest Mah's you can find. Using standard AA's can get expensive if you plan on using the camera on a very regular basis. Plus-side is it uses the common-sized/readily avail AA's. Better then the expensive Li-Ions other cameras use.
And the manual....not totally useless but it pretty much sucks. I learned more about terminology and camera functions from reading about other cameras then the owners manual itself. Bad thing for real beginners who are not very mechnically inclined or suffer from techphobia.

Opinion: A really great camera. I wish it had an output (or whatever you call it in english) for flash. The lens cap is not so great either, it falls of from time to time. But its a great camera and i love it. Watch my picures at www.henrikwiklund.com or direkt link to
