Opinion: I found this an excellent camera to learn on. I'm an artist,
and wanted a way to get my sculpture and other work onto
the web easily. This was my first digital camera, and it
served me very well, both as introduction to digital wonders
and as a practical tool. The available manual mode and
aperture priority setting gave me the control I needed, yet I
found the camera simple and comfortable to use. After 2
years with the C-2040 I'm about to invest in an 8 mp
(probably the Canon Pro 1 -- personal attraction). But I'll
keep this sturdy (it's put up with a lot) little camera for travel
and backup.
Problems: It does go through batteries pretty quickly. Also, sometimes,
when photographing a very small 3-D item (say, 5 inches
high) the auto-focus takes a bit of luck & several tries.
Opinion: Zeer lichtsterk ! Goede macro, maar 20 cm...
Handig in de hand.
Goede zoom.
Algemeen goede beelden, maar is nu voorbijgestreefd in kwaliteit.
Problems: Batterijen snel leeg.
Soms volledig groene waas, indien groene achtergrond.
Traag in gebruik.
Omslachtig gebruik van menu.
Self -timer gebruik véél te omslachtig.
Macro ontoereikend (20 cm)
Opinion: BOUGHT AN USED ONE FOR £120 ON EBAY
HAVE BEEN USING IT FOR 2 WEEKS, I REALLY SATISFY WITH MY PURCHASE. PROBABLY THIS IS THE BEST 2 MEGA PIXEL CAMERA. UNLIKE MOST OF THE PEOPLE HERE I FOUND THIS CAMERA FAIRLY EASY TO USE.
1) OVERALL, THE PICTURE QUALITY IS EXCELENT
2) THE SUPER BRIGHT LENS IS AN ASSET ESPECIALLY WHEN TAKING PICTURE IN LOW LIGHT
3) FULL MANUAL CONTROL
4) REMOTE CONTROL
5) WELL DESIGN BODY AND SOLID CONSTRUCTION
Problems: 1) LIKE ANY OTHER'S REVIEWS HERE: THE LENS CAP IS REALLY FRUSTRATING, IF YOU FORGET TO REMOVE IT YOU WILL HARM THE ZOOM MOTOR
2) MORE NOISE THAN MY PREVIOUS CANON A100
3) REAL LCD VIEW IS TOO RED
4) PURPLE FRINGING
5) MOST USELESS OPTICAL VIEWFINDER
Opinion: I bought this camera in January 2002 and I've been using it for over 1,5 years. Overall, it's a great camera that still compares favorably to current models. The bright F1.8 lens especially is a real asset. Also, I really like the ergonomics: I can get a comfortable grip even though it's a compact camera.
Problems: The usual digicam problems: Slow AF, mostly useless MF, no real-image viewfinder etc.
Opinion: Thrown it away!
When working really excellent - but usually takes 2 -3 pix and then battery gives out! Buy a new set of AA's two more pix - low res too! and nothing! Back to Olympus returned fixes - great! Three months later same problem - now out of warrenty - no joy with Olympus so not wasting more money fixing an oldish cam!
Problems: Battery Fails constantly!
Opinion: I have had this camera now for about 1.5 years. It has work flawlessly for me, pictures are great, and you can switch out with AA batteries. I wish it had a stronger zoom though. 8x or 10x. Overall this is a great camera...

Problems: You have to remember to remove the lens cover before you turn it on. GRIND........
Opinion: Excellent camera! By the time I had done all of the research and decided this was the model I wanted, it was discontinued here in Canada. I did located a refurbished one in the US and had it shipped in. I have no regrets at all, and feel that this was the best camera to choose in my price range. I found that many of the newer models of cameras didn't rate as well as this model, and many of the features on this camera are not available on the newer cameras. Pick the features you want, and then go looking for the best camera to fit that criteria. This camera has excellent battery life if you don't have the LCD turned on all the time, is very easy to use the menu's, easy to view pictures (including thumbnails), and very easy to download the pic's to the computer. Plug in the USB port, open up Explorer, then turn on the camera and it will show up in Explorer as a removable drive. You then copy or move the pic's from the removable drive to your hard-drive! Done! I'm happy my 3 months of research paid off with such a nice camera...especially at the reduced prices now available. Some of the newer models just can't beat this one.
Problems: I personally find the viewer a little hard to focus through, but I wear glasses and the diopter setting can't be adjusted to suit me exactly. I do the best I can, and rarely have one out of focus anyway.
Opinion: Depending on the light, the camera takes excellent pictures in auto mode. There are lots of manual features that let you better control the effects that you want to achieve. I have been surprised at the excellent quality of A4-sized prints of images captured with the C2040Z. I average about 145 SHQ images per 128 MB SM card, which usually matches charge of a set of NiMH batteries. Small file size is the advantage of two-megapixel pcitures.
The C2040Z has provided a lot of satsifying fun. The general design is further refined in the later C3040Z and C4040Z, and that can't be a bad thing.
Problems: The main frustration with the camera is the shot-to-shot time lag and it's bracketing shortcomings in SHQ mode, both of which are due to slow processing speed and small buffer. The rear LCD panel is hard to use in bright sunlight.
Opinion: very good camera i did do a lot of researh and i think this camera is 1 of the best in price/quality.
