Hi, everybody! After my J1 died and local Nikon service centre asked for CAD135 to fix it, I picked up on e-bay Japanese J3 for $150 (seems a better deal :)). However, it comes only with English and Japanese languages, and the firmware is at 1.00.  I want to flash it to latest and greatest (too many nice additions - i.e. the focus tracking with FT-1). The question is is it safe to flash it with Canadian (or US) firmware to get access to more languages? Quick googling didn't turn up a definite...

I got V1 with 10-30 for $267 (200e) recently. Now J3 with 10-30 is on sale, also for $267. Should I buy it? What do I win with J3 compared to V1? What do I lose? 14 megapixels vs 10 megapixels, what other differences are there? Does J3 has timelapse photo mode like V1? Will I be able to set J3 to take a photo every five seconds? Will I be able to switch off the LCD screen of the J3 with the camera still functioning like I can with the V1? This is useful for candid street photography and...

I just got  one of these and I was look in for a recommendation on a case for the camera, a card or two, and an extra batt.  Also, anyone have experience with the Wasabi batteries in this device?  Same as J3, and they work great in that, just curious. Thanks

I take a lot of sideline sports photos, and recently got the J3 (bundled with the 10-100). When I took it out with the 30-110 yesterday, the shots did not seem as sharp as the ones I was getting from the older J1. Is this normal, or is there some way to set up the J3 for better sports shooting? These were shot S priority (400) continuous AF, just the same way I set up the J1. --Rube

Which is the best lens to use for family event and traveling?  I just want to have clear pictures and i like blurry effect in background . I think the best choice for me is 18.5mm. What you guys think?

First time posting on this forum and couldn't find a post on this subject. I just got the J3 and everything seems to work great with both the kit 10-30mm and the 18.5 lens without flash but I seem to have difficulties getting the proper exposure when I turn on the flash in these modes. All of my pictures seems very dim and can't seem to get the exposure correct. I tried using the night portrait mode and the pictures turn out a bit brighter but the processing time is too long. I would expect...

I'm trying to find a camera (preferably a not too bulky dslr) that is reasonably fast with good photo and video quality including in low light/dusk. By fast I mean including the time it takes to focus (in order to catch a fleeting moment for example). In many reviews in general it's not clear what is meant by the camera being fast. What should I look for to determine whether the fastness of the camera serves my purpose. For example, I tried both Nikon1 J3 and Sony NEx 5r - all reviews...

Am disappointed by J3 behaviour with the WU-1B. I want to shoot using the camera just like normal, and have the photos (jpg) automatically arrive on my iDevices (and or Android devices). Do the Eye-Fi cards support this on a J3/V2? The WU-1B does not. The WU-1B only allows me to do two things: - use my iDevice as a remote with Live View and initiate photos from the iDevice; - use my iDevice to download images already present on the J3. I want to be able to shoot initiated by the camera just...
