Sorry if this is the wrong forum. I've been a reasonably happy Canon DSLR owner for some years, but getting impatient on Canon having a full-frame to match the Sony full-frame sensors in the A7r and D800 series. According to DxoMark, the highly rated Samyang 14mm is significantly sharper on the D800e than my Canon 6d. I own the Samyang 14mm for Canon and have been impressed. It's one of my favorite lenses. The differences are almost hard to believe. Real world, what can I expect as far as...

On page 3 of the DPR J1 review:http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/nikonv1j1/3 it mentions "Macro Mode" and "Super Macro Mode". I haven't been able to find those menu settings. Is this something the camera picks from "Scene Auto Selector"? I do see "Close Up" with a flower in the detailed Owner's Manual on page 21. Does this allow a higher magnification ratio than using Manual Focus? Is this on the V1, but not the J1? Also, is there a spec available on the closest "Magnification Ratio" for the...

Hi! I want to buy a camera that I want to use a simple facecam for YouTube and such. Since it's just gonna be a hobby and i'm just an amateur I want the cheapest thing possible.  I've been looking extensively at these 2 cameras from the title but I know nothing about modern cameras and what they support/do, I have no idea if they'll fit my needs.  Basically I need a cam that I can mount on a stand, that can record directly onto my hard drive via USB or HDMI(I have an HDMI Input card) while...

Let's start off by saying that I like N1 and have 2 J1 bodies now (had V1) with a collection of lenses. I see Fuji on sale now and is attractive to me for its price, sensor size AP-C, OOC jpeg quality and want to get it perhaps as a bridge between my J1 and FX. I tried it out in camera store and like its simplicity, good high ISO photos (12,800 looked great), but haven't had a chance to test it on our toddler :) I primarily use my N1 for kid photos (quick focus and instead of phone camera)...

Hi, I have a nikon d90 for photographs. However, I am thinking about getting a small video camera to use with my grand kids. How is the j1 or v1 going to fill the need as a mostly video camera? Thanks Bob

Is it possible to enable "Blinkies" with the J1? (so that blown highlights would blink on the Review)

Hello everyone, I am building a quadcopter system for aerial photography, and need to choose a camera to pair with it. Most people use a NEX-7 or Samsung NX300, but they need an external IR trigger / Servo. The Canon EOS-M seems to be the best option so far, because of the magic lantern software: http://www.magiclantern.fm/ Since it is supposed to be a small, low-cost system, a Nikon 1 would save a lot of weight and increase my flight time. But I can't seem to find information on which...

I have seen Nikon refurbs on eBay for £149 with 10-30 mm lens 12 months warranty.. whereas they usually go for approx  £95 - £129 used. They are Red but don't really mind. I'm just wondering if the V1 is 'much' better and worth paying more? Can you get refurb V1s? (in UK) I'm not in the loop on these models; though I have see enough to see the appeal. I forsee me using either for informal video at weddings and supplementing the D7000 and D600 I have. I prefer the video from the D7000 vs the...

I take a lot of sideline sports photos, and recently got the J3 (bundled with the 10-100). When I took it out with the 30-110 yesterday, the shots did not seem as sharp as the ones I was getting from the older J1. Is this normal, or is there some way to set up the J3 for better sports shooting? These were shot S priority (400) continuous AF, just the same way I set up the J1. --Rube

Hi All, How do I manual focus with the focus ring of the 32mm.  Am I missing a setting?  Thanks. ---Viethttp://www.ambercool.com
