Still learning... Fn button set to Preview. I understand that when pressed it closes/opens the aperture to the set value. When pressed I can see that it changing to dark due to small aperture but the actual picture is OK because the shutter compensates for it. What is it good for ? Thanks, Arie

Setup : Camera on tripod in a regular lit room, focusing on a bunch of pencils, using AF-ON button. 1. Auto-focus sets on one of the pencils.  2. After AF I play with the manual focus on the lens and the the focus is on another pencil (no change in camera position - tripod). 3. AF again - back to the first position. Why is that so ?

My wife would like me to take some photographs of her horses but they will be taken indoors (possibly even some with the horse inside the stable) and it would be too dark without some artificial light.. We've seen some from a professional photographer recently in a presentation he did and it gave me loads of ideas. However, using flash with horses is not going to work. I wondered what you would recommend for a light source in these circumstances? I'm not cash strapped but I don't think I'll...

Hello All, I am strongly considering pulling the trigger on the D750, 24 - 120 F4 Kit. My question is this: if I were to go with the 7100, what lens would be most comparable to the 24-120 f4? I know the benefits of going full vs crop.  I shoot primarily landscape, travel and some light sports. I have a D7000 that has been to Nikon half a dozen times with dust/grease on the sensor issue, not unlike the D600.  It have a series 1 18-200 VR and would like to replace both.  Since I am replacing...

Hi everyone!  New to DP Review and DSLR. My adventure starts with a D7100 and Nikon 16-85VR and 70-300VR lenses.  I have been trying to understand SD cards and I believe I have half of the equation understood, ie a 95 Mbs card will write faster than a 40Mbs card allowing for less buffer time for burst shooting.  Could someone please help me to understand the transfer end of this equation?  From what I've read, the faster cards are useless for this purpose unless using a 3.0 USB reader.  My...

Hello Guys, I just bought my first DSLR yesterday from Jessops - Nikon D7100 with a 18-105mm kit lens, and I have enrolled onto a photography course. My question is, I'm planning to do a lot of travelling this year and am wondering what other 2 best lenses I should get. The reason I say 2 is because I don't want to carry more than 2 additional lenses with me and I want all 3 to be able to cover architecture, close ups, wildlife, rivers/bridges and sunsets. Ideally, I'd like to carry just 1...

I hear a lot about back button focus and the advantages of using it.  But so far I can't wrap my head around this and just using AF-C on my D7100.  What's the deal? What am I not understanding? --http://www.flickr.com/photos/107641481@N02/

I have just bought a Nikon 50mm f/1.8D prime lens. I took this picture (leg of my glasses frame on a mouse, and a LED desk lamp is on top of it) : f1.8, 1/80s, ISO 200 The purple fringing is right in the middle of the picture. Does it happen very often to this lens?
