Opinion: I bought mine second hand two years ago so i can use it together with my d50.The picture quality is not much difference from d50 which is very good.I like more the d70s because is bigger and because is uses compact flash cards and not sd cards.Although is little bit outdated i found it a very nice simple dslr.It doesn't have all these settings that nowadays modest dslrs have ,but the menu is simple and easy to understand and some people like this kind of simplicity.Personally i would like a bit more functions on the menu, lets say like the d80. I use it more for portrait photography and the pictures are very nice, sharps, always on focus.Up to 400 iso there are noiseless. At iso 800 starts to show some noise. The noise is very vissible at dark areas so be sure to avoid pictures with dark areas.I use it also a lot at nights with my external flashes (metz af48 + sigma 500dg super) and the pictures are still very good.I never use the built in flash on any of my cameras so i can't set any opinion on that. For the prices are so low now on ebay or other sites is not bad idea for someone to buy one.
Problems: The back lcd screen is small (2 inches) but i can live with that anyway.
Opinion: Bought a second hand D70s about a year ago to prop up my Nikon collection of equipment (being my first Nikon DSLR), so I got it cheap.
I have found it to be a very nice camera. Image IQ is very good, well built and reliable metering.
AF isnt the fastest, but probably very good considering its vintage, and the rear screen is a bit small and lacks contrast.
Overall a nice addition to my Nikon family and a camera I would still happily use from time to time.
Opinion: I bought my D70s in August of 2007 and all I have to say is WOW! Nice camera! The pictures are beautiful and crisp and the image quality is wonderful. The feature I love the most is its 3 FPS burst. Now I won't miss out on the picture due to shutter lag. I would recommend this camera to anyone wanting to take their digital pictures to the next level.
Opinion: This was my first DSLR and i must say that it was a revelation when i got it. It is very easy to use, very friendly and produces great images that do not really require any post processing. Nikon broke the mould with this camera and i have nothing but good things to say about the D70/D70s
Opinion: I have used this camera since Sept 2005. This my first SLR Digital and absolutely love it. The pictures I have been taking have a professional look. It is wonderful that I can use all of my AF Nikon lens that I used on my Nikon SLR film camera.
Opinion: I've had it for two years now. Excellent build, handles much, much better than
Canon's Digital Rebel. Metering is superb, in my opinion, though I do shoot manual
often. Battery life excellent.
Lens backward compatibility is another great plus. I've borrowed a friend's Soligor
(=Vivitar) 100-400 f/4.5-6.7 and, even at the long range and not too bright
situations, it would AF w/o a hitch, which I found amazing (especially since that's a
15+ yr old lens...). A D40X wouldn't have worked with such a lens, for instance.
The ISO Auto mode is VERY helpful. Recently, shooting in a Zoo with several friends
who had Canons (350D, 30D, etc), I was surprised (as they were too w/ regards to
my D70s) that their Canons didn't have such a mode (it bumps, if you wish, the
ISO for the shutter speed/aperture you have selected).
All in all, an excellent value for the money.

Problems: None.
It does show noise upwards of ISO800, but that's as expected. And there is, eg., Noise
Ninja and other plugins for handling that...
Opinion: I've had the Nikon D70s since December 2007 - it's my first dSLR [my film camera is a Nikon F90X]. It's built like a brick and I can only imagine it must be as strong as one. Image quality is superb for a bottom-of-the-range Nikon dSLR, and it's so incredibly easy to use. The one real downside to this great camera is that it was designed not to accept a true vertical grip, hence I rate it a 4 for features. Nevertheless, this camera deserves a 5 for value because of the feature set and handling.
Problems: None at all.
Opinion: I buy this camera one month ago and i love this camera!
Problems: none
Opinion: While a good camera, not really meant for professional use.
To me it was nothing more than a backup camera to my D2X cameras. Used it a few times in lowlight condition, but it didn't really shine there.
Sold it when I sold the D2X-cameras.
Problems: Nothing big...a dead pixel on the ccd.
