The D60 is the third incarnation of Nikon's compact, user-friendly entry-level SLR line that started back in 2006 with the D40. The D60 is a direct replacement for the D40X , and once again it's not a major upgrade; the sensor remains the same (though now has a dust reduction system) and the external design is almost identical. There's a few new features, including the same Expeed processing 'concept' seen in the D3 / D300, Active D-Lighting, an eye sensor (to control the screen display), and some tweaks to the interface, but perhaps the most significant change isn't to the camera at all; the move to an optically stabilized version of the kit lens. It's not the most highly specified entry-level DSLR, but it's affordable, lightweight and a pleasure to use, and it produces pretty good results too.

Opinion: Just bought this camera today. Size: just ideal for me, not large as the D300 or Canon 40d or Olympus E3. Build quality: while good, it is not as good finish as olympus E510, which I also own. However, lighter than E510.
Menu: easy to use, even without reading booklet. Image: noise when taken in low light at ISO800. There is ISO hi which is good for low light. Colour: not as saturated as olympus, but brighter, whiter. Flash: 12m , it is okay. View finder: not as good as D300, but on its own, it is satisfactory. Speed: speed of capture is fast, but there is this annoying slow speed of processing on the to class 4 SD card I used. Imagine how much slower on ordinary card. Lens kit: light, but plasticky, made in China. Nikon body is made in Thailand. Hence, expect to have specs off with extensive use. 3 point focus: good, although only 3. Battery: fast charged.
Problems: i) Slow writing and processing of image on to card (reminded me of the olympus sp550uz!).
ii) battery~ seems to have some difficulty taking it out.
Having tried the D300, the D60 appears to be acceptable as a low cost entry body.
If the features of D60 were to be that of D300, the size and features would be ideal.
Opinion: Nice camera. Easy to use, small and light. Together with the 18-200 VR ideal for
travel. Quick startup and fast operation. Decent IQ (imho).
Problems: Missing function buttons
Opinion: Just purchased this camera image quality is great, easy to use I'm just getting back into having a DSLR So Nikon made it an easy choice with this camera. I'm very happy with this purchase.
I tried a Pentax K10 and found the indoor lighting and flash not as good, I returned it for the Nikon and what a difference Nikon images are much better with indoor lighting.
Great Camera for the money.
Problems: None
Opinion: Easy to use, crisp with great colours
Handy size perfect for overall use
Problems: Like to have a few "My Program" in the PSAM
I take a lot of indoor sports and every time, I have to ajust and remember the single case, and it would have been nice to have a few own setups
