Opinion: After using years of Canon slr's (and Nikon before that) I really enjoyed this body. The image quality is excellent, construction is next to no-one. Every button is just where it should be.
Awesome machine. In my opinion even the price is now very competitive.

Problems: Not used long enough to face any.

Opinion: The camera is great. I do not know why "pirinchov" always has such bad reviews with all Nikon cameras. Pirinchov, you are an idiot, paid by other camera manufacturers. Shame on you.

Opinion: Firmware Problem?
I wanted to share my experience with the D3x I purchased on Friday 1-30-09

I currently own a D300 and 2 D3's so when I went 80 miles from home one way to use my new D3x I didn't take the owner's manual.

I set the camera on a tri pod & set the camera to record images as RAW & JPEG.

When looking through the view finder I saw a flashing yellow error, (cd) and the camera would not allow me to take any photos.

After removing the cards (almost new SanDisk Extreme III 8 GB) reinstalling the cards and switching the position of the cards, I was finally able to capture 4 photos before the error returned. I then formatted the cards and was able to capture a few more photos before the error returned.

At that point I was done for the day and returned home. Upon returning home I looked up the error code.

"Insufficient memory remaining to complete task."

The next day I changed the settings to record images in JPEG only and the camera worked fine, except I noticed a Vignette effect with any lens I was using.

The effect would change when I would zoom in or out. Lenses used were all Nikor. 24-70mm 2.8 70-200mm 2.8 and 80-400mm 4.5.

The vignette did not show on any photos, and I have not seen this with any of my other cameras using the same lenses.

After spending ½ hr. on the phone with Nikon tech support, they suggested that I return the camera, which I did on Tuesday.

I will keep checking firmware updates to see if this issue is addressed, and purchase another D3x then.

Opinion: Well, I finally took the plunge and pick-up one of these babies. And yes, I do own a D3x unlike several who decided to mark the ratings down on this fabulous system based on pricing alone. I remember when the first Canon 1Ds entered the Canadian market, it was priced over 12,000 The Canon 1Ds Mark 2 was approximately $9000.00 for several years before the Mark 3 entered the market. The D3x is a tool for the working professional and or for the extreme hobbyists who may have deep pockets. Price aside, the D3x is quite simply the finest 35mm SLR system on the market today, bar none. From a professional’s standpoint that demands this level of performance from a camera system, this… in itself is justification for dishing out the funds. OK, enough about the price. I’ve played with this system for a couple of weeks now and all I can say is that the image quality from the D3x are quite simply… awesome! The level detail it resolves is truly amazing not to mention, that famous Nikon feel with respect to both the colors and dynamic range. The images have a tremendous level of resolution without looking over processed. One of the issues I had with the Sony A900 when viewing the images at 100% crop. And yes, there are differences between the 2 sensors. Nikon’s proprietary micro-lens technology has been utilized on the Sony based sensor and also uses a totally different pipeline. You simply cannot compare the 2 systems especially in low light conditions. The ability to crop the images from the D3x is virtually boundless. The D3 body, which the D3x is based on, is superb with ergonomics to match. It goes without saying; you must use Nikon’s finest lenses and your abilities as a photographer to get the most from this system.

Problems: None!

Opinion: This camera is probably at the moment what market offers best. Only backspot is pricing. One might now say that this page is not made to to complain about pricing. I do not agree since all features of a camera; good or bad start by buying it and here Nikon is far out of reality. It simply also make me laugh when some say that one should not give opinion about a camera one doesn't uses. This is bullsh.. . One can be critical about a camera since all cameras work the same way and someone who ever used any Nikon is into it anyway. There is no difference between a D3 and a D3X except the Sony exmor sensor of 24 mpix. If this one is used and managed in special way similar to the sensor of the D200 once is a separate question and no-one ever will make me believe that this is worth 3000 bucks higher in price.
I do not think that Nikon will make the big deal with that and those who are willed to pay for and care nuts about pricing are not the larger part of Nikons customers.
I will certainly give 5 stars to anything concerning this camera but certainly not for the value for money. A pitty there are no minus stars to click on.

Problems: I used the camera 2 days for test not enough to give an allover detail about any disadvantages. The picture quality is Nikon like some color rendering are Nikon usual own way but the sharpness and detail are just amazing. To say that up to
600 iso I did not notice a major difference in picture sharpness and quality between the D3X and Sony's A900.
Maybe I will soon find out what this 3000 bucks are paid for when I rent one for a month or two.
