Opinion: Almost perfect DSLR body i ever had. Almost no complain
Opinion: I have been using a D50 for about 5 years and switched to a D300s in Nov.2010. The change
was substantial and the learning curve quite steep, but now I feel comfortable with the D300s
and truly enjoy the ergonomics, build quality, rich feature set, speed and image quality.
Using this camera really helped me improving my photographic skills. The autofocus system required a lot of attention at first, but it works great once I got a better understanding of it.
The only gripes I have with it is high ISO noise, but with accurate exposure and good noise
software this problem can be managed.
Opinion: I had the camera for almost a year now and enjoy using it since the first day. It is a very well build, solid camera. The image quality is excellent once the use and the proper configuration is learned. The camera has a huge number of parameters to set up and the factory default may not be suitable for everyone, so user configuration may be necessary. It is definitely not a camera for those who are afraid of complex cameras.
Auto focus is lightening fast and accurate. The ISO noise is low even at very high ISO if the image is exposed right. Beware of the anti dust function. It is off by default.
I have upgraded from Olympus E-3. The D300s is no doubt a better camera in every way. I miss the swivel screen but the resolution of the LCD is just amazing, as opposed in the Olympus cameras. The Auto WB works better as well, more reliable and precise in colours.
Some of the cons are:
- Pixel mapping is not available from the menu.
- Swivel screen of the Canon G11 or Olympus type would be an advantage.
- Easier access of some menus would be desirable.
- Eyepiece rubber is not good. Had to replace it with the Olympus EP-6.
Problems: No problems so far.

Opinion: I borrow a friend's D300S because I am looking for an
upgrade DSLR to replace my D100 which I own for 1.5
years. The D300 is very comfortable to hold and ease
of use (due to the familiarity of the Nikon family). All
departments including increased megapixels of the
CMOS, speed of operations, focusing, larger LCD, less
noise are great. It has the same great quality of image
with fine detailsp Nikon quality.
Problems: The problem: In MANY different camera opinion posts
I notice some people posted
1. No text;
2. negative comments with no sense;
3. rated all ratings with the lowest 1 which probably
reflect the brain capacity of the person rather than the
camera.
Opinion: Just played with this, while deciding if I should upgrade my D200. It's pretty cool. I just wish Nikon would stop having multiple buttons and options to accomplish the same task. Slim down the camera and we will all catch on :)
Does anyone know if there is a tablet (yes even iPAD) that could work with this camera, to display the images while I am taking them. I do a lot of softball pictures and it's not always easy to tell if everything is in focus.
Opinion: Solid and reassuring. Fast as lightening, decent buffer capacity and the 7fps has captured things for me my D90 missed. As with my D90 I used the video to check it worked when i opened the box, never touched it since. I have a HD video cam if i want video, which is not often. This complements my D90 perfectly. Love the setting banks for the custom setting and shooting settings, the extra configurable buttons, the 9 frame bracket limit and extended Active D bracket sequence. Brk burst is also an excellent feature. Some camera manufacturers seem to woo customers with pure head line features, megapixels, or less often,frame rate, Nikon seems to fill the cameras with useful features which is what a photographer needs or at least benefits from.
Problems: Noise in the dark areas of images shot even at low ISO, and fast shutter, generally noisier at high ISO and long exposures anyway.
Opinion: Fast, strong and the best DX Nikon ever. The movie feature is not important to me. I wish a little more MP (14 at least). The high ISO reductor is very aggresive.
Problems: The grip of my old D90 was better for my hand.
