Opinion: I work for a portrait company, Lifetouch, which has studios in JCPenny stores. They use this camera and most settings are locked and can't be tampered with so that anyone can come in and take a properly exposed picture. The color is great and all. I don't know if it's the formatting the computers have but what I see in the viewfinder is SUBSTANTIALLY more than what I get in the image file in terms of width and height. What comes out is only what is inside of the viewfinder's focus point rectangle (the four corner boxes seen in the eyepiece).
Opinion: This camera is only now beaten by the D300 and D300s in almost every respect except handling. In my opinion, the handling of the Nikon Pro bodies is second to none. The very best ergonomics and speed and control layout.
Sadly, the sensor was terrible in low light and ISO 800 already showed too much noise. But at ISO 100-200, this camera has color fidelity, resolution and sharpness to rival any camera, even today.
Problems: Poor low light performance. AF system not as good as Nikon's latest.
Opinion: I have taken about 40000 shots in a years time-AF speed is very good, colours are fantastic. Though at time AW white balance is not as accurate. It’s a shame Nikon unable to produce good lenses for DSLRs and this camera is not at all suitable for above 400 iso. Sensor cleaning is a big pain for me too.
Opinion: This Camera Rocks! I am short for time right now, but I will constuct a detailed review over the next few days. A lot will think I am nuts for spending the money on a D2XS when the D3 is just around the corner, but there is nothing wrong with this camera. You are only limited by your imagination. The sky is the limit to what can be done with this work of art. Build & speed are fabulous. The LCD is much better than the D2X, it is on par to the D200's LCD. HSC mode is a great improvement over the D2X also. The 12 MP CMOS sensor is quite good. Many will complain about the noise that Nikon cameras are noted for. This is true on under exposed images, however proper exposure does greatly help the final result with this camera as does exposure for any other camera. The hockey shots I get at 1250 ISO are good. Image noise is a problem, and is something Canon has had a handle on for awhile now, but with a little PP work I find that I am getting great images, and it has not slowed sales down one bit! In studio this camera has it all. The color rendition is fabulous. Zoomed into an eyeball the detail is astonishing. Paired with my SB-800's there is no end to how creative I can get. Battery life is very good. If you don't chimp 700 plus shots in RAW is easily attainable! I love the viewfinder. Being a left eye shooter I find this one of the biggest things that helps my shooting. Having the ability to lock my aperature & shutter is a nice plus also. Keeps me from accidently bumping it when shooting peak action. WB is quite accurate. I do shoot mostly auto and find that it compensates well in most conditions. WB is an easy fix in PP though! Prices on this camera are going to continue to fall as we are on the verge of a D3. If you can't afford the D3 like me, at half the price the D2XS is a stellar camera. I would recommend to anyone!
Problems: Noise is there without a doubt, but look at your situation, how high of an ISO do you need to shoot? Exposure exposure exposure is the key, it helps big time!
Any other complaints are minor and nopt worth mentioning!
Opinion: It's a realy amazing camera. The image quality is outstanding. The handling is great. You can shoot 2000 - 3000 photos without charging. The AF is very fast and even in low light no problem of focusing. I used in heavy rain and sandstorm at the beach with absolut no problems. It's built like a solid rock. I love it. I have no reason to buy a D3 or D300.
Problems: No problems.
Opinion: excellent.
Opinion: After 10 months of use... fantastic camara at all, very responsive machine.
Problems: It could be a little cheaper :)
Opinion: Excellent and super responsive camera that lets me be creative without biting my hands off when I make a mistake
Problems: Small problems with not turning off properly, also encountered this with other Nikons too...
Opinion: Purchased this camera 5 months ago. Spent two months in the Bahamas with it, took
a few thousands shots. This camera makes me so much better than I ever was in my
photography hobby. What a pleasure it is to create photos with this fine piece of
professional photography equipment. I purchased the camera with the Nikon 18-200
VR, and SB-800. I'm currently waiting delivery of the Nikon 105mm Macro VR, and
R1-C1 light system. As I continue looking over my photos from the Bahamas there are
so many that I can't believe I shot , they're that good. I would buy this camera again
today if I had to do it all over again, not one regret.
Problems: no mechanical, or technological problems have hindered me. I'm learning more about
this fine machine everyday. I do recommend the D2Xs guide from Magic Lantern
books, much better explanations on how to use the many features , a lot clearer than
the Nikon users manual.
