Opinion: I LOVE this machine, I got two of them. Results coming out of this camera is better than any Canons I had in the past. I don't think I will change my brand and model until they break beyond repair. It is an awesome machine, built like a tank... if you get a chance to buy one, BUY ONE :)

It can sync the flash up to 1/500 second, very very fast :)

Problems: If you like to check your images in the LCD viewer behind your cameras after each shot, this is not your camera, because the LCD viewer is small and colors are awful! yet, it doesn't bother me at all, teaches me better photography... this is not something negative for me rather something positive.

Opinion: This review is based on a secondhand D1X bought in 2007. Right, it's a beautiful beast. My only gripe is that there's no sub-command dial on the vertical grip - but I've learned to twiddle on the main dials with my left hand.

Out-of-camera JPGs are gorgeous, very film like. Shooting RAW is fine, but with such good JPGs it's a shame not to capitalise on the D1X's JPG engine. Images print up to A4 with absolutely no pixelation at all, and interpolated 10MP images also print up to A3 with no problems.

Not a gripe, but CLS would have been nice. I know it wasn't invented at the time of the D1X's release, but Nikon could've made it more backward compatible. Instead, just get a cheaper Speedlight, e.g. the SB-28DX which does an admirable job.

Opinion: Can be picked up for a steal these days. Excellent all-rounder and can still beat newer models such as the D80. The AF is super-quick, the body is solid and comfortable, plus the image quality is impressive even for this day and age. Because of this camera and Fuji S3 Pro, I enjoyed my experience with Nikon and sometime in the future, I will get the D3 and be back with Nikon again. Battery life was not a problem for me because I immediately bought two NiMH after-market batteries and they lasted a long time per use.

Problems: - Small screen
- Slow operation (read/write/review/menus)
- No red triangle on the hand grip ;-)

Opinion: I had this camera last summer for a few of my weddings and LOVED it. It is built
like a tank, the handling is superb, and the auto-focus quick and effective, even in
dim light. I loved it so much, I sold a few things and sprung for a D2X, as I
needed the Creative Lighting System (SB800s & SB600s with wireless control),
which the D1X does not have. And that is the ONLY reason I sold it. IMO 5 MP is
more than enough for weddings and allows a bit of cropping too. The image
quality was superb, and really reminded of film for some reason. Auto WB was
sometimes a little out, but I always shot RAW so it was not a problem for me. Great
camera. However, if you want the full potential of the CLS, you need to look
elsewhere.

Problems: Some say battery life is bad, but I did not find it too bad, and I was using it full
time with a 70-200 vr lens on it. I simply purchased 3 newer batts (non-Nikon
ones), and used a charging/calibrating technique when I first got them, which
makes the batts hold their max potential charge. I would then be in a position
where I would change once during a wedding shoot but that was it, so DON'T be
put off by this issue, just buy a few new batts and research the calibration
technique. Screen is a bit small by today's standards.

Opinion: Love the camera bought it used recently. I also own a Canon 30D system which does have better colour but does not produce as sharp an image. The Nikon lets me use a lot of my old lenses on it going back to the early 70's. Having taken photos for a living and as a hobby I love the new digital photography. This camera gives more of a film look to the results than the Canon, and I do love B&W having had a darkroom since the early 70's.

Problems: Just that the leatherett cover comes off to easily

Opinion: I bought this camera used and have been using it for the last six months constantly. It's test was a trip to Europe since I decided to take only one body along on the trip. I had just picked up the camera and was a little apprehensive about relying on it and not taking along the F5. NO PROBLEM !!! What a joy to use and what results. If you can put up with the short battery life, and most amateurs should be able to, this is THE pro body for under $1000. Great camera and a pleasure to use

Problems: None.

Opinion: This applies to used D1x camera as they are no longer available new. Faultless contruction and more features than you could possibly use. Pro-level features like portrait shutter release and controls. Will definitely outlive you if treated well so you could look on it as a lifetime purchase. Images out of the camera are very good but probably not much better than prosumer D70/D80 nowadays. The differentiating feature is build and confidence - this is an amazing workhorse and is a camera you won't want to change every year.

Problems: No problem but be aware this is a very heavy camera (1.3Kg with batteries) and it is a six year old design, e.g. small LCD display, small CCD sensor (5.3mp), firewire PC connection and difficult to clean sensor (requires AC adaptor which is in short supply at reasonable prices).

Opinion: I picked up a used, but damn near pristine D1X after reading the review on DPR and the other D1X owner reviews. I'm astounded. I made the jump pretty easily from a D50. The manual I thought was poorly written, but I've been able to figure out a few of the functions simply by tinkering.

The camera itself feels like it was made in the same factory as the Abrams tank. It handles solid and steady. The viewfinder has spoiled me rotten even though I get nose grease all over the LCD panel.

The images coming out of the camera are simply fantastic. The color is true, the black and white functions remind me of film noir in terms of the contrast and being able to switch back and forth between color and raw using programming of the FUNC button is great.

This camera is amazing and will defenitely be coming back to Iraq for a more extended field test.

Problems: Battery life is sorely lacking, NiMH batteries in a Li-ion world just doesn't cut it. Dust on the sensor and not having a built in mirror lock up function is nigh unacceptable. Shooting rate is good, but for a Pro DSLR I think Nikon could have done better on this one, but it is a 5 year old camera.
