The first proper DSLR? Not counting all those Kodak/Canikon hybrids. This is a likeable camera (nice feel to it), and for its price today is highly recommended for those who want to try the Dx body without splashing out massive money. Images are good, JPG's are better than the Canon 1D JPG's (tho' the 1D is an all-round better camera...it is also 2 years more current after all). 2.7mp is enough (especially for web galleries and forums), but of course no real cropping or massive prints allowed. ...

Great tool. Mostly happy with the pictures it makes. Have used the camera for two years and rarely have the need for "film" anymore. This is the only digital camera I've had any serious experience with. Use it for several professional publications and a website. Problems: Very unhappy with rubber falling off. After replacing several times, just left it off. Not just the thumb rest, but also the rubber pad on the bottom. Also, TTL flash with SB-28DX doesn't work very well at all. Now ...

The first Digital Reflex for a reasonable price (Compared to Canon/Kodak), but it feels not so good you need to buy a lot of extra stuf like chargers, batteries and software. Problems: A lot of shutter-problems (within a range of about 300,000 pictures the shutter has to be replaced 3 times). Of course the problems with the rubber.

Been using the D! for over 18months, almost 200 000 frames, actual cmaera great to work with but build quality C&@p rubbers continuously falling off (replaced what available 4 times already after 2 weeks already peeling) and supplier stock always problem for replacement. Also body rust/corrosion on grip and memory card door from 2 months old and taken Nikon this long to agree to sort it out. Bombed 1 sb28dx already "to erratic to find problem" new one almost as bad. YES IT WORKS HARD BUT ...

Construction Quality speaking, this the worst SLR Nikon ever made. The external rubber started falling apart 1 month after I bought it. I use it inside an airconditioned studio! Been using my D1 for almost two years now. I think I'm one of the first D1 owner in my country. Image quality speaking, this is a very nice camera. Until about 4 months ago , I still think this is a very nice camera. it started to have problems 4 months ago. Sometimes it cannot capture any picture.Just blank images. I

Fine images can be made with this camera. Feels great, balances well and works well. Er, all except for the Flash TTL with the SB-28dx. That doesn't work. I use the flash set to A all the time. That works well 99% of the time. The controls are a bit on the confusing side. Nikon opted for a custom function system instead of the drop-down menus found on the Kodak 620. The camera leaves you trying to remember what function number and setting you need to see a histogram, etc... Zero points for ...
