Bought this new in 1997 or 98 for two thousand pounds sterling a kings ransom then, it was just before I went digital so was bought for use with my FM2 and by god did it excel on that. My career was on the cusp of going professional then so I thought in for a penny, it still remains the most expensive Lens purchase I have ever made, it earns its keep on my D3x now. The quality from this lens is unsurpassable, the work its brought me has put my daughter thru private school, paid the mortgage ...

This lens is very sharp, with the D700 image quality is excellent. The lens speed, combined with low-light noise control in the D700, allows me to expand the brightness range in landscape images for a more natural look (fewer blocked-up shadows), and to shoot hand-held images in shade or overcast at reasonably high shutter speeds. Problems: At my age, I would love to carry less weight! When I backpack, even minimizing weight of tent and gear, the camera+lens adds hefty pounds.

I bought this lens many years ago second hand and it is with me all the time. Excellent for studio work and general walking around.

Great versatility and sharpness- its a charm to know I can open up to 2.8 and still have sharpness. Thats something I couldn't do with my old Tamron. This so-called Beast lens is still alive and kicking. Its going to be with me for a very long time as the images I see are so clear and sharp. Some say there is flare but I use the included ...
