Like many here who started using DSLRs, I began with a modest "beginner's" camera. In my case, the D40 with the ubiquitous 18-55mm kit lens which sufficed for many years of basic, amateur usage. Now that I have moved on since, having upgraded to a D7000 and had the chance to use many different prime lenses, I find myself yearning for a decent mid-range zoom that would not break the bank. Sharpness and beautiful bokeh are characteristic of better macro lenses. While this 18-70 lens is very versatile and produces nice results, it has its place, and that is not the macro arena. Problems: No problems at all with this lens.

This is really an amazing lens. I bought this second hand which is very cheap considering it was priced very high when sold at first now you can do a real bargain if you find one in good condition like i did. Compared to the 18-55 which takes good photos already i never liked the feel of it, plastic, if using filters the front moves which is not the best perhaps if using filters. The lens is also very well built, a step up from the kit lens in all ways a bit better aperture range 4.5 vs 5.6 ...
