Easy to fall in love with this lens. I picked up this lens yesterday and I am thrilled with the quality and the range. I walked around a mini-car show today and took photographs of the various vehicles. Perfect! This lens on my D7100 is 24-127.5, CRISP, accurate, beautiful, everything that I wanted in a walk around lens.:-D

A nice sharp DX normal zoom lens for sunny day shooting. Top lens in the Nikon DX zoom lineup. Good size, weight, zoom range. Metal Mount with Distance Scale. MA-M AF-S switch, quick AF with full time manual use. Normal-Active VR switch for shooting from train, bus, car, etc. Loves to go out in the sunlight. 67mm filter. Best use is expanded 2mm on short end & 20mm on long end vs 18-55 VR kit lens. Fine on 16mp sensors, still good on 24mp. VR yields about 3 stop difference. Giving the lens ...

So far soooo good! Solid and versatile for "the one" lens to carry around when it's just one of those days that you have nothing specific in mind to shoot. I favor it, since it gives me the option of going wide, or zooming in -- with the easy of carrying it. Construction feels durable, with a bit of weight but not too heavy. Smooth action on my DX cam. There's some noticeable barrel distortion at 16mm, but I guess that's the usual case which can be corrected in post. At max zoom at 85mm, the ...

I bought this lens a year ago to replace the 18-55 kit lens on my D3100. It is superb. It delivers at all focal lengths. I shoot mainly landscapes, where sharpness is critical, and this is easily good enough; pictures come out with great depth and great colours. This and the 70-300 VR zoom (for wildlife) are all that I ever need. Build quality seems fine. It's twice the weight of the 18-55, so combined with the D3100 it's not such a lightweight combination, but it's worth it for what it ...

Pro's: Sharp edge to edge, across all focal lengths and at all apertures. (4.5 stars) Versatile focal length 24-127.5 FOV equivalent. (5 stars) Resolves well with Nikon D7100. Good IQ (5 stars) Fast focus with D90 and D7100, probably others. (4.5 stars) VRII excellent. (5 stars) Minimal distortion, easily fixed. 5X zoom. (5 stars) Good walk around on DX. Solid build. Con's Poor Bokeh. (-0.5 stars) Cost. One of the better DX lenses out there.

Why get this over the 18-105? Four reasons: 1. 16-85 has a metal mount; the 18-105 has a plastic mount 2. 16-85 has active VR, and Nikon claims it is VRII; 18-105 does not have active VR, and Nikon does not claim VRII 3. 16-85 has ful AF-S system (i.e., MA/M switch); 18-105 has only an A and M switch 4. The additional 2 mm at the wide end is very noticeable It gets a 4.5 based on the above and given its very high image quality (considering it is a zoom). It loses half a star due to the cost ...

Very good lens! VEry sharp and good lens distortion! Is quite fast focusing and has a robust body. I think actually is the best lens in this focal range. It would be perfect with more aperture, like f4 at 105mm :) LEnte molto buona, sia per nitidezza che per controllo della distorsione. La messa a fuoco è veloce ed il corpo dell'obiettivo sembra abbastanza robusto. Credo che in questo range di focali sia il migliore zoom attualmente disponibile. Sarebbe davvero perfetto se avesse un'apertura ...

I've been using two copies of this lens on both the D90 and now the D7000. Long story short, after 20,000 or so images snagged by this lens, I'm still a huge fan. My previous and current copy perform identically, both are sharp, and built solid. It's a heavy setup, but delivers impressive results and worth the weight. Perfect travel lens. It honestly covers the perfect range for the bulk of desired shots, from wide to moderate telephoto. Very well priced given the build quality, speed, ...

To be honest, I think this lens is over rated. It is certainly a good all around lens, but it's not really excellent at anything or bad at anything. This is for people who want an all around lens to carry with them on vacation or such. Quite good for landscapes as well. However, f5.6 at 85mm is just quite slow for anything but still life or general photography in good light. VR works very well though! You can check out my complete review here: ...
